Rumor: Isiah Stanback practicing at CB now?

All you folks that want to slam Carp for not being a star want to wait until Stanback is ready to see him contribute. That is not what a fourth round pick is supposed to do!

I am all for waiting to see what the kid can do. Not forever, but a resonable time.

Same should go for Carp.

Carp and Stanback are completely different stories -- 1st round picks need to contribute right away -- Carp was inactive for several games last year and has done little outside of ST this year. That is a disappointment. Stanback was a 4th round pick -- expectations are different for 2nd day picks.

I call BS. Even if he really was practicing there, it's no big deal. Likely just covering someone to be a body out there. When he's going to be inactive on Sunday, it's a way of keeping him involved mentally.

I've know some coaches who would practice their WR's at CB and their CB's at WR some just so they can get a feel for what the other guy is doing. You know, for an understanding of what the DB's will be doing when they're covering Stanback in the future.

Having taken a few practice plays there when he was new and inactive will only give him a better understanding of beating CB's.

Who's to say that Phillips doesn't think it's a good idea to do that with young guys.

Either way, seems to me like this is pretty much a non-story.

There is nothing wrong with Stanback if he goes both ways

The Pats had a player, Troy Brown?, that was successful for them as WR and CB....

so I say... why not see what works best for this kid.

would sure cement him a roster spot ..........:star:

Well...My fathers, brothers, sisters friend told me we are moving Romo to fullback. Prove me wrong :D

Hes fast as all hell so I don't know it could work. Hes like Antrel Rolle except hes actually fast. He could really rough up a wideout.

Hes not going to see the field on offense this year... why not defense?

because corner is one of the most difficult positions in the nfl to play and switching rookies form position to position in the middle of the season is asinine.

only way i expect stanback to play this year is on ST.

Yeah, he's like Antrel Rolle... except that he wasn't a defensive star in HS, an All-American at a big name school (at cornerback) in college, or drafted 8 overall to play the position he's played since high school.

There are far too many nuances to the CB position, the 3rd most difficult position in the NFL, for anyone to pick it up in a few plays at practice. This is all times and reps he could spend at WR or learning to return.

At least Stanback is faster than Henry.

I hope that they're just using Stanback at DB due to our depleted secondary right now, I would like to think that that is the only reason.

At least Henry has 4 more interceptions more than Stanback, and is playing Pro-Bowl quality CB. If you're going to diss one of your own, genius, you might want to do it to someone who is actually playing poorly and deserves it. Wow, where do we get these guys?

stanbeck's 100m was better then ted ginn's at 10.48
he might not get imidiatly, but that just means his top end is even better.

I want to know why he hasn't been on the field, at some position consistently. It can't be from lack of knowledge as he hit the books hard during TC, right? What happened to our athletic prodigy? He should at the very least return punts/kickoffs. How hard is that................

He is on a team of very good athletes. He is recovering from a major injury and he is about 3 years behind the athletes in front of him on the learning curve. Are you serious? You actually EXPECT a 4th round PROJECT to come in here and start somewhere or else he is a bust. Oh my god! You have to be dense to actually believe that crap. A 1st rounder would be doing exceptionally well to see the field here. The ONLY reason Spencer is on the field is because Ellis is hurt. Otherwise he would be relegated to backup status too. Sheesh! Some people. :bang2:

I think people are frustrated over this pick.

We've got some real needs at WR, CB, and NT. None of this was taken care of in the draft.

As soon as Stanback plays and makes his first NFL catch, a lot of this will die down.

I think only stupid gomers are frustrated over a FOURTH RD PROJECT.

Stanback's 100M time converted to a 40 time is 4.39.

And that puts him about behind about 100 college guys with world class speed.

I'm waiting to see this player step up. That he is struggling early at WR and moved to corner is a major red flag. Also that his return skills can't get him roster time is another concern. If he was this all world athlete and fast and all, he would be out there.

5th and 6th string WR's need to play ST's or they really have no place on a roster. He is at best a practice squad guy on 53 because JJ won't admit maybe he badly reached with a 4th.

There is absolutely no evidence that this is true. Its ridicules to speculate on an unsubstantiated rumor.

I think its a concern that he hasn't been activated this year.

With Glenn out...this would be a perfect time to get Stanback involved with the offense.

If he has exceptional speed, he should be on the return team. WR's are supposed to be able to catch the ball.
