Leary would have to sign for Alex Boone money and we'd have to bring in no comparable free agents just to get a 4th rounder in 2018. It's an absurd hypothetical scenario to even entertain.

OG are making more lately. Still not tackle money but still 75% or more of what they make. Leary will get paid. I am trying to think of better guards to hit the market in recent years and he is comparable to Levitre who got paid over $7m AAV a few years ago.

Maybe. I think what's going to affect Leary's pay is teams not wanting to make a long-term commitment to him because of the degenerative knee. That might mean he gets a pretty good haul up front. Of course, it's possible that he won't because it would seem to me that if any team thought he had any real value, it would be willing to trade for him while he's on a relatively cheap deal instead of bid for him on the market.

Fair enough. The biggest issue with figuring out where Leary will fall is we don't know how much teams value him. Is his 2014 performance enough that some team will pay highly for his services? Will the knee issue limit what teams are willing to pay? I can see him falling into the $5 million range if a couple of teams love what they saw. I don't know based on one year of starting and his degenerative knee if he can get much more than that.

He didn't get enough service time his first year for that to count so he's been in the league for 5 years and not had a problem with the knee at all. His issue has been his groin and I don't see that being a deal breaker.

I'm glad to see the Cowboys holding out for a worthwhile return. He surely has value for us as a backup and shouldn't be dealt cheaply.

I think Leary's will be closer to a real two-year deal with most of the guaranteed money in those first two years. That could be good for Leary in that his first two years could be fairly lucrative.

He played in 2014 although he hurt his groin midseason and took time to recover. Put in the Texans game and watch him block JJ Watt at his peak.

2015 he got Wally Pipp'd by a blue chip prospect.

Go look at the FA lists of OL the last few years. They are filled with marginal players and dinosaurs. He is young and talented which is unusual.

Parnell got a large deal from a 5 game stretch and years of bad tape.

Leary could go into the offseason having very little playing time over 2 seasons, huge difference.

I am not knocking Leary as a player, I think he is better than Parnell but nobody is giving a guy a who has not played in 2 years big money no matter the circumstances.

And that's why he wants out now. He played some last year and looked good. If traded, he stands a far better chance of being able to make money... either right away in an immediate deal or after showng well on whatever team he's on.

I don't blame Leary at all for not showing up to voluntary workouts. He made his dissatisfaction clear and I think he needed to do that. Hopefully Dallas is able to get value for him and I wish him luck (unless he goes to Philly, Wash, NYG, SF, PItt or NE of course)

A starting quality OG with a mean streak is worth much more than posters are giving him credit for. Leary is a very good OG when healthy and he could start on most NFL teams. A 4th round pick is worth less than Leary. He is just entering his prime and many posters are wanting to give him away for a a late round pick that will amount to nothing. How many starting OGs are drafted in the fifth and sixth round? Not many, very very few that is as good as Leary.

A starting quality backup Swing Guard is worth more than a 4th, especially in a Romo Friendly environment. Plus our RBs will benefit greatly, because someone participating in the trenches will always gets dinged up over a 16 game schedule.

Unless another Olineman steps ups, Leary is as valuable of a commodity as they come. He's off the bench and dominating in the next play without the Offense missing a beat.
