Buffalo was offering the #12 pick for our #22 and Julius Jones if Marshawn Lynch was off the board.

From the get go Dallas wanted Spencer and didn't want to take him at 12, so that offer wasn't what they were looking for. They would have taken him at 22 had the Browns offer not been so good.

The Jets reportedly inquired about him last year actually. It's early.
Good stuff. I'd not heard about the Bills' offer.

Though I think that the draft value chart is a bit antiquated, that deal (according to the chart) values JJ as a mid-second rounder. Not bad.

That of course would have given them both Thomas and Julius Jones in the backfield. Not as balanced a combination as you'd like as their games are similar - however, you certainly wouldn't hear any complaining about carries (although I think JJ and MBIII both handle sharing very well).
They allegedly wanted Julius last year... Pretty much a whole year before they had to settle for Thomas. :)

I'd heard that too. I can see the fascination -- the Jets look at Julius and see Curtis Martin. JJ hasn't performed to that level but he's got the talent. I'd bet tons of teams are looking at him and thinking -- "wow, if we tweaked his game here and here, we could do something special with this kid"

I do agree -- the idea that JJ has no value is silly. If his value is limited it is because he is UFA at the end of the year, not because of his skills.
You misread me on my mistake. The Jets inquired about him last year, not this year and they acquired Thomas this year.

I can't tell one part of NY from another.

Must re-evaluate the magnitude of my hangover.

I didn't share the Bills offer because I knew we wanted Anthony Spencer and was saying that in the days leading up to the Draft. In the chat room I did share it but no one quizzed me on it. When Lynch was there at 12 I said, "no deal with Buffalo."

I also said when Steve Smith went off the board that we would trade out of the 2nd round to try and get back the 3rd and 5th we gave up to get back into the 1st to select Spencer. It ended up we got back a 3rd and a 4th.

I can diagnose that for you.

It's a doozy.

i'm a little late joining this conversation but i just had a conversation with a buddy of mine about this rumor and wanted this board's opinion on what you would think about a trade that would involve JuJO, Kevin Burnett and our 2nd 1st round pick next year for LJ.

I know LJ had 416 carries last year and that seems to scare a lot of people off but he only had 20 carries in 2003, 120 in 2004, 336 in 2005 and 416 in 2006. So the wear and tear shouldn't be too bad. He is a great power runner and he also is a good reciever from the back field (he has averaged over 10 yards per reception over the last three years) which seems to make him very ideal for the new scheme the offense is implementing.

Burnett's position is crowded and he already has spoken about wanting more playing time but his playing time will be limited with the number of players we already have for that position. not to mention the Chiefs can use some players on defense.

I also don't see JuJo willing to play as a back up running back in his contract year if we get LJ, in which his playing time will be restricted even more than it has been the last couple of years.

For a scheme that puts the focus on a power running game, a running back tandem of LJ and MBIII seems scary to me.

what do you think about the trade scenerio?

I think Wade Phillips is white. I think that about sums it up. Larry Johnson is a ME player that seems to believe that everyone owes him something.

Great running back for not. Next.

I wouldn't give more then a 2nd, contingent upon a sign and trade deal that would extend LJ for more then just a year that would be financially responsible in terms of Cap. IE, not an LT type contract.

do you mean in addition to JuJo and Burnett? or a straight up deal, a 2nd for LJ?

I'd consider Burnett and JJ + a second if the contract details could be worked out. I would probably not consider a 1st, under any circumstances.
