RUMOR: Norm Hitzges: Chiefs interested in trading LJ to Cowboys?

Larry Johnson is a franchise back. We know that. McFadden may be, but we don't know. It would be nice having a franchise QB and a franchise RB locked up for the next 5-7 years, even if it's expensive.

Yes, LJ just came off a 400+ carry season, but his body has nowhere near the wear and tear on it that a back should at his age because he was a backup for his first several years.

I'm not sure this would be a good trade, but to write it off as ridiculous just doesn't make sense to me.

Yup, but the distance between "not far away" and "there" is usually farther than it looks.

For me it would come down to price.

LJ is a "man among boys" type of RB. He'd be a huge addition. ... exactly the kind of component that would perfectly complement the Cowboys defense.

MBIII is a nice enough RB, but his departure wouldn't mean much in the long run. He's a somewhat above average RB. He's not a make or break kind of player. LJ is.

IMO, the "mortgage" component of the trade would mainly involve the draft pick that went to KC along with MBIII. If that pick was a 2nd or 3rd rounder, that's not huge, particularly considering that you've got two #1s next year ...
Spot on.

Everyone can forget the talk of giving away that Cleveland #1 next year -- that isn't going to happen. But say LJ holds out and things get really nasty between him and the club? The price could go way down.

Heck, if Spencer starts fast and seems like he can play early, we could give them a pick plus Julius and Ellis and remove two of the biggest sources of conflict on this board. :p:

Kidding, pretty much... But LJ would make our offense a real force. Not many backs can wear down entire defenses, but I think LJ can.

Back in the Switzer, Gailey and Campo eras I would have jumped on this trade. We wasted so many draft picks on the likes of Kavika Pittman, Shante Carver, Shane Hannah, etc. Now with Jeff Ireland, I feel somewhat safe of his ability to draft intelligently in the 1st round. No thanks on the trade, KC.

Naa that doesn't make sense to me because Julius Jones and Marion Barber III are a nice combo. When people talk about trading 1st round draft picks you start to get into hindering your franchise for a while...

*See the Joey Galloway fiasco back of 2000 for proof....

I'm intrigued by this. I certainly wouldn't write it off as quickly as some are.

Neither would I.

I do not like the idea of trading Cleveland's choice, however.

That could easily be top five.

Johnson is not that much of a sure thing. KC's line did have something to do with his success.

You forgot what I consider the most important part. Larry Johnson has character issues.

Arrested twice for domestic abuse

Larry Johnson said:
"I wouldn't pay attention," Johnson said of playing under Vermeil. "My eyes, I would be up in the sky. You know, I would be sleeping in my locker. I wouldn't carry my playbook because I was just trying to get away from this building, you know, when Dick was here."

Cris Carter asked a legitimate question and probed into the reason why Johnson did not get along with Vermiel. Johnson claimed that it was difficult for any African-American to respect a non-African American coach. He stated that “they” don’t know what it is like to be an African-American and every black player cannot take direction from a white coach without perceiving it as negative and as an order.

Umm. :stop: :thumbdo: :loser:

I would trade them JJ and give LJ a 2 year 10 mil 8 mil signing bonus with the option to terminate it after the first year.

Then draft McFadden.

I called someone who knows much more about the NFL trade market than I do and asked what the price might be for the Cowboys. His answer: Marion Barber and the Browns' first-rounder.

No friggin way.

Lol NYC, thats funny. Johnson thinks its hard to play under a white coach when, what 95% of the NFL head coaches are white?

Good luck with that

Every back has done well in KC its the Oline.LJ isnt all that.hes good, but man not worth this stupid trade.we can get a young top rb next year.

i suggest u look at what KC had last yr. and johnson still ran crazy. i'd like to have him in dallas. he's established and young. hitting prime. he's 27 not 28. he doesnt turn 28 until basically the end of the yr. and after 1 400 carry season these players are supposed to fall off the map? johnson got better twards the end of the yr. he's what kept KC in the playoffs hunt. maybe the cleveland pick is alot, but i'd def trade dallas pick. you people act like LJ is a scrub now. he's an Elite Rb in the nfl.

Barber= team player
Johnson= Me, my posse and I.

But he sure doesn't have any problems accepting money from the white owners.

Lucky for us, Wade's not all that white.

Haven't you heard.

as long as they pay them, the white man is okay. But if there not, then the white man is the "debil"

(by them i mean people who think like LJ.... before people get racial on me)

True and he did this on a KC team where many around the league was questioning Johnson putting up big yards given the fact that KC had lost some of their key O-lineman before the start of the season. Yet he still posted a big season. He proved he was the real deal in college and has proven himself in the NFL I don't see any questions regarding his ability to play this game at a high level.

I don't know what LT is making but I think it's real important to understand what LJ is expecting to get paid. Consider, we have a young QB who is also trying to get signed. We can not sign a RB for more then we are paying our QB IMO. Let's say 8 years, 60 million with LT. We would be signing on to pay even more for Romo. That's not trivial for an unproven QB with limited experience, some might say. I don't know about LJ. Good player but the contract has to be right. No way I give up Clevelands pick and Barbar. Bad deal if we were to take it, IMO.

exactly. LJ will do every yr, whats expected and even go beyond that. not only is that a gain for dallas. but he has 2 wr's and a te who will clear space for him. LJ is a lock for 2000 yrds in dallas with the players he'd be playing with. i think with LJ in dallas, they're a favorite to win the superbowl.
