Lovie: I want Rod, Jerry.

Rod: I want to go, Jerry.

Jerry: Ok, but on one condition: You take Kiffin with you.

Then what happened with his last contract with the Bears?

If Lovie wants him- he will tell Jerry he wants to go and Jerry will let him.

If Chicago wanted to force the issue, they could have squatted on his rights. Chicago was gracious enough to let him leave. I do not think he will force his way out of Dallas as Kiffin was expected to leave sooner or later. I'm not so sure Kiffin is even fired this next offseason. Yeah the defense was bad, but they had a rash of injuries. I think the entire coaching staff comes back next year with an emphasis on front 7 on the draft.

Only problem about not retiring Kiffin is who do you get to be your DC now. Who is going g to come in as DC with a head coach that has only one year left on his contract

What's it going to be then, eh?

There is a thing called a contract. No one twists your arm when you sign it. Maranelli is a former marine, so I am pretty sure he knows what its like to honor one's obligation. Maranelli will work to the best of his abilities even if Kiffin is fired.
Your argument he is a dutiful Marine and will just salute Jerry Jones and say Hoo-rah has convinced me.

I respect your opinion and you may be right.

I think you're wrong though... respectfully. I think Marinelli is gone, baby, gone.

If this is confirmed that Rod's leaving it almost guarantees some significant changes are coming to the defensive staff. I can't imagine we retain Kiffin as DC with no Rod. I thought there was going to be a clear transition for Rod to replace Monte whenever he stepped down.

This is going to get interesting.

I never once thought Jerry would do that. I always imagined there was a deal in place for Rod to leave if lovie got another gig.

A DC with HC aspirations?

Maybe... I have no names, just that idea.

Have to figure Kiffin is gone. As others have said, it seemed like keeping Rod in the fold was one of the few reasons to retain Kiffin. It'll be interesting to see who we tab to replace him.

100% true. There is no point to keeping Kiffen if this is true.

No reason at all.

In fact there is no point in keeping Kiffin anyhow. News flash. The 2013 Cowboy Dfense Sucked. Call him Ro Marinelli No D in his name.
Maybe Frazier can interview in Dallas

I wouldn't be shocked to see him leave. Kiffin will probably go too. Hopefully Jerry lets jason choose someone he'd like.

Interesting to see who coach Jerry hires to be his DC and DL coaches.

By keeping Garrett for 2014, Jerry's kind of painted himself into a corner. How does he bring in a new Defensive staff on a 1 year contract? Any legitimate HC will want his own Defensive staff.
