RUMOR: San Diego RB Michael Turner for a 2nd round pick

Actually, LT usually had 100+ yards and at least a TD last season before halftime.

Turner ended up relieving him for the entire 2nd half of many games and they never even lost a step in the running game.
He is very good.

No need to sell me on this guy. I know exactly who he is. However, I was not aware that he had so much opportunity to play last year. He is definatly talented. I don't know if he's an every down back but he certainly has the kind of skills to be a share the load kind of back. No question IMO.

You have the 35th pick in the draft, would you trade for him? Not so sure about that...but AJ Smith is one heck of a GM.

geez Louise people...the guy has less than a 1000 yds rushing for his CAREER...

nice backup player on a team with a great run blocking OL, but I bet if he ends up as the featured back someplace he falls off the face of the earth

David

He's 5-10 237lbs. and runs low to the ground with pretty good speed . He's definitely an every down back and a guy I wanted badly coming out of college . I'm not on the trade Julius bandwagon and would prefer to keep him , but I'd make an exception for Turner . His only real weakness is his receiving ability . He was all world at Northern Illinois .

to some people on here, maybe

to NFL teams...probably not

That's highly unlikely. I'm sure some team out there wouldn't mind giving up their 2nd for him.

And if you think I'm crazy, review the Matt Schaub trade again. The Falcons received a second-round pick in this year's draft, a second-round pick in next year's draft, and a flip flop of spots in the first round this year.

All for a guy who has thrown 161 career passes for 1033 yards and has a sparkling 69.2 career QB rating.

It's entirely possible.

Fifth round in '04.

Edit: Funny how they mention Houston as being interested, seeing as how they just traded their second round pick.

I was keen on him that year, but on the 2nd day, 3rd round at best

When was he originally drafted ? what round?
He was selected 111 picks after Julius  at #154, in the 5th round.

And he is far better than any RB that this year's weak class will offer in the 2nd, IMO.

Young, experienced and as proven as one could be at this point in his career.

2004 , same year Dallas took Jones . I had him rated above Jones that year . I had Steven Jackson , Kevin Jones , Chris Perry , Michael Turner , Tatum Bell , and Julius Jones .

We would have to give up more then our second IF this rumor is true. Our Second is so low that its not worth a whole lot more then the raiders 3rd.
Would the Chargers be willing to take JJ- who has only one year left on his contract?

I bet you had Tom Brady rated as the best player in the 2000 draft too didnt you

David

if we had taken turner and the chargers had taken JJ would we be saying:

trade turner and a 4th for JJ
JJ is a home run threat and turner is not
Turner cant "carry the load"
Turner is "not an every down back"

maybe, just maybe
the grass is always greener on the other side

Turner has no years (or 1yr if he signs his tender deal) left on his contract, meaning it only makes sense to trade for him if you can sign him to a long term deal

when you factor in that he's a career backup that hasnt even totaled in 3yrs what JJ just totaled in one, I really dont see what the hoopla is over him...if our RB's ran behind the SD OL we probably wouldnt be discussing this issue every day

SD OL >>>>>>>> Dallas OL

but apparently some dont want to acknowledge that

excellent point, if we're not going to extend JJ at this moment in time, why does anyone think it would be any different for Turner?

you wait and see though...somewhere in this thread somebody will justify giving a 50 million contract to a guy who has averaged 300 yds a season
