RUMOR: San Diego RB Michael Turner for a 2nd round pick

you wait and see though...somewhere in this thread somebody will justify giving a 50 million contract to a guy who has averaged 300 yds a season

David

it will probably go like this

"he averaged 6 yards per carry and we know Julius won't do anything, at least Turner isn't a complete failure yet!" :)

Do you think he would sign for 3 years, 50 Million?

I bet you had Tom Brady rated as the best player in the 2000 draft too didnt you

David

Well not that I was talking to you Dave , but no I hadn't even heard of Tom Brady . God knows that if it wasn't your idea then it certainly holds no merritt .

Turner has no years (or 1yr if he signs his tender deal) left on his contract, meaning it only makes sense to trade for him if you can sign him to a long term deal

when you factor in that he's a career backup that hasnt even totaled in 3yrs what JJ just totaled in one, I really dont see what the hoopla is over him...if our RB's ran behind the SD OL we probably wouldnt be discussing this issue every day

SD OL >>>>>>>> Dallas OL

but apparently some dont want to acknowledge that

David

And apparently some don't want to acknowledge that the Chargers , who have the greatest back in the NFL , and possibly the greatest to play the game , felt the need to put a first round tender on a "career backup" . Why do you think that is ?

it's because Turner does a great job of keeping LT fresh and the 2 of them are a lethal combination, esp. when they don't have much in the way of a passing game

Turner is worth every bit of a 2nd round pick.

Yep... especially if you could move Julius for a third...

I like Julius, but Turner is a beast...

yeah that 900 and something yds in 3 seasons is truly legendary work

I think I could gain 900 yds in 3 seasons running behind San Diego's OL the past 3yrs...and oh, their QB play has been pretty damn good too

gee I dunno...maybe because they figure with an enormous amount of cap space that 1.3mils a yr is a decent price for a proven backup RB

Never said he was legendary, I just said I liked him alot... sorry if that somehow offends you...

If you watched the footage of his runs, he broke a lot of tackles. Thank goodness for that OL!

That being said, I still like Julius a lot. It's all just speculation and opinion at this point.

Have you ever watched this guy play ball? It's painfully obvious that you haven't seen much of him (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), but if you had the second round tender wouldn't sound like much of a stretch. The kid plays low to the ground and is excellent betwen the tackles. The first guy almost never brings this kid down and he seems to have that RB instinct of exactly when to turn on the jets and burst through the line and hit the second level very effectively. He's a solid back, for sure. If we were desperate for RB help it would be a no brainer for Jerry and Co.

I live in the part of the country where we get every game they play basically. I don't want him at that price.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about him as I haven't seen him much, but I have a bad feeling about other team's backup runningbacks.

This guy is Julius and Barber in one, he's worth an early 2nd rounder and more...

I agree, Hos. Not for us. We aren't desperate for the help at that position. If we were, however, the powers that be might have to look very hard at that deal (considering the lack of talent at that position in this year's draft).

BTW I'm just up north of you (Show Low). I can get you a smoking deal on a round of golf at the one of the best courses in the state (yes, I've played "a few"). That is if you consider free a smokin' deal.:D You've got a decent course in your neck of the woods that I'm partial to (Ventana Canyon).

My wife was born in Show Low at Navapache Med Center and my In-Laws live in St. Johns. I am in that area all the time. I would love to take you up on this.

Ventana is such a nice course. You should see the Nicklaus designed one being built at Dove Mountain for the Ritz Carlton. Wow. Not far from where they held the Match Play last month. I may get a couple of free passes to that course. I am seriously hoping.

I've probably seen as much of him as anyone else has...we're all Dallas fans, so we all see little of other teams in the later time slot games because the Cowboys are almost on...its always interesting to see reactions from some people in regards to some other teams players, because they act like they've seen the guy play every down every week, when in fact they've seen a few highlights on ESPN

but yes I have seen him play...he is a nice backup RB...but I also recall a nice backup RB here gain almost 600 yds and average over 5.0 yds per carry here one season...there was all sorts of outcry for him to get his chance and take over for a certain starting RB here...once he did, he became a painfully average RB...Turner's gained just over 900 yds in 3 seasons...sorry, that just isnt much to get excited about, and it certainly doesnt make me want to trade the guy we already have here who's doing a good job for him, and in turn also have to give up a high draft pick/s AND a ton of money to sign him to a huge contract extension

he breaks some tackles yes, but so do our guys

the difference is our guys definitely havent had the advantage of the outstanding everydown blocking that San Diego's guys have for several seasons now...their OL is far better than ours has been

PM me when you're coming up, Hos. I'm the crew foreman at Torreon Golf Club. We'll hook up and get a couple of rounds in.

Can't say that I disagree withyour assesment, D. But my (personal) evaluation of the guy has very little to do with his stats. He's much more explosive than Hambrick ever was. And, I agree, I wouldn't trade JJ for him, but the kid just has something.
