I like Turner. But almost half of his carries last year came in the 4th quarter. LT wore teams down then Turner came in during garbage time and busted some nice runs.

Giving up something for a guy who has bloated stats and runs over guys who are already beaten down doesn't make much sense.

So instead of taking Julius in the 2nd, we could have taken Bob Sanders (picked 1 spot after JJ) and then in the 4th, instead of drafting CB Bruce Thornton.....we could have drafted Michael Turner....

But, we didnt......

I wouldn't be interested at that price.
Agreed. Some team is going to get fleeced. He'll go to the Bills or somewhere and put up 3.5 YPC as a starter.

Given our RB situation, I was similarly shocked that we didn't take Turner as he was still on the board in the 4th. I was actually screaming at the TV. I liked the kid. Of course, I think he's nothing better than a nice #2 back.

Wow....why does that sound vaguely familiar?

It shouldn't if you actually looked at the player's stats you're referring to.

yeah that 900 and something yds in 3 seasons is truly legendary work

I think I could gain 900 yds in 3 seasons running behind San Diego's OL the past 3yrs...and oh, their QB play has been pretty damn good too

David
You could?
In only 157 carries?

I'll bet you could count on one hand how may RBs have totaled 941 yards on their first 157 carries in the NFL.

I've probably seen as much of him as anyone else has...we're all Dallas fans, so we all see little of other teams in the later time slot games because the Cowboys are almost on...its always interesting to see reactions from some people in regards to some other teams players, because they act like they've seen the guy play every down every week, when in fact they've seen a few highlights on ESPN

but yes I have seen him play...he is a nice backup RB...but I also recall a nice backup RB here gain almost 600 yds and average over 5.0 yds per carry here one season...there was all sorts of outcry for him to get his chance and take over for a certain starting RB here...once he did, he became a painfully average RB...Turner's gained just over 900 yds in 3 seasons...sorry, that just isnt much to get excited about, and it certainly doesnt make me want to trade the guy we already have here who's doing a good job for him, and in turn also have to give up a high draft pick/s AND a ton of money to sign him to a huge contract extension

he breaks some tackles yes, but so do our guys

the difference is our guys definitely havent had the advantage of the outstanding everydown blocking that San Diego's guys have for several seasons now...their OL is far better than ours has been

David

No one is asking you to change your opinion/agenda...

You are a great poster here, but we have other posters with pretty good opinions as well...

I think you have me wrong, if you go back... even to the old board... I may have very well been the first to suggest Julius Jones to the Cowboys...

That being said, I thought Turner the Burner was a great pickup for SD, and he is being wasted there...

The fact that Turner is available intrigues me... that's all...

I've been following the draft for some 35 years now and I still like his ability...

When he has had the chance, he has been dominant... that's all I am saying...

It ain't Rocket Science...

Better response than the one you originally posted (yes, I can see those as well).

That being said, it was still weak... I expect better from you...

Turner and Maurice Jones-Drew are the two guys I would love to have. They are both back-ups but man they appear to be better than what we have. The grass on our side looks like the moon's surface compared to those guys! :D

I am a hugh Michael "The Burner" Turner fan. The kid is legit. You guys are pretty set at RB with JJ and MB III. If you guys move JJ, you will be in the market for a compliment to Barber. If I have a little understanding of A.J. Smith, I will say that we will get more than 1 draft pick for moving "The Burner" (not a 1st and a 3rd, but maybe swapping 1st rounders and other compensation from another team). He are "The Burner's" combine numbers:

Michael Turner
Position: Running Back Michael Turner
College: Northern Illinois
Height: 5-10
Weight: 237
Hometown: North Chicago, Ill.

AGILITY TESTS
4.42 in the 40-yard dash … 400-pound bench press … 385-pound squat … 295-pound power clean … Bench presses 225 pounds 20 times … 31½-inch vertical jump … 13 chin ups … 7.4 percent body fat … 29 3/8-inch arm length … 9 5/8-inch hands … Left-handed ... Wonderlic: 35.

As I have said in a previous thread, all he does is break tackles and he has the ability to take it to the house on any carry. And, we drafted him in 2004 while A.J. took the Giants to the woodshed and traded for Rivers, drafted Olshansky, Hardwick, Phillips, Keading, and Olivea in A.J.'s first full draft without John Butler's input. The same year that the pundits were claiming that A.J. Smith was in over his head.;)
