yeah, The Burner averaged 6 yards a carry last year
You mean like how Hambrick averaged 5.4 as Emmitt's backup?

Good point.

I wouldn't just look at the average. I would look at how he runs. Look at what he did in college. Both Hambrick and Turner went to small colleges. I saw Turner play a couple of games against the big schools and he ran well. There is a reason Hambrick was not drafted and Turner was picked in the 5th round. Turner won't maintain a 6.0 average if he becomes a starter, but I think most people, coaches and scouts will have more confidence in him than anyone ever did with Hambrick.

I never did understand the love for Hambrick. I thought he was a good back up, but never saw him as starter material. He didn't run as tough as his size and build. It was weird because he was a hellacious blocker, so it isn't as if he was scared of hitting people. He just didn't run with that same intensity. Anyway, he proved me and many others that he is not an NFL starter. Too bad he could not accept that because he could still be a good back up in the league.

I didn't bring up his average, Bob Get Your Hand Off did. Just a small thing, but if I didn't bring it up I'm probably not touting it.

A thought just struck me. Bear with me while I do some math.

Julius Jones, 2nd round Draft pick.

2896 career rushing yards, 16 TDs
469 career receiving yards

Barely worth a 3rd round draft pick, per most on this site.

Michael Turner, 5th round Draft pick...in the exact same draft.

941 career rushing yards, 5 TDs
55 career receiving yards

A bargain at the asking price of a 2nd round pick, per some in this thread.

Am I missing something?
Good point but...

The difference is 721 carries to 157.

The belief (of those you're speaking of, including myself) is if Turner has 721 carries, his stats are better than Julius's. If Turner were a starter for 3 seasons rather than a backup he would have been more productive than JJ.

Where an individual was initially drafted is moot to me.

A good example would be Matt Schaub versus J.P. Losman.
Or Patrick Crayton versus Rashaun Woods.

The same argument is currently being made for Barber's potential over Jones's... one that I agree with, BTW.

Potentially high reward is always more appealing than proven average production.

we're not doubting that he's a player, just whether he's worth a 2nd round pick

I think that's an awful lot for a relatively unproven back-up in a great situation
Aren't rookies even more unproven?

That's why Turner is more of a safe bet to me than ANY RB in the 2nd round of a given draft. He's actually done it. And done it in the NFL with minimal opportunities.

In the video, starting with the Titans was last season. The the T.D. against the Patriots was in the playoffs. Also, for those who were saying that Turner comes in in the 4th qtr. when the defense is worn down, check out what qtr. it is when "The Burner" was running over Ravens last year. He had big runs in the 2nd qtr.

For those who have not seen "The Burner" play, here is a new video done by JCDavey (there was a longer and better video taken down by you/toube).

The kid runs hard is is difficult to bring down.
Good vid.

He always reminds me alot of a guy we already have on this team but with less shake and more speed.

MB3 anyone?
WHY ISN'T THIS KID (MB3) STARTING?

you're crazy if you think Turner could average 6 yards a carry receiving most of his team's carries

I don't want us to draft a RB high, only feel Peterson and Lynch are worth 1st day picks IMO, and there are other players I would take before Lynch at 22

so that argument doesn't apply to me

You're crazy if you think I said he could.

Because I didn't.

whatever that means

in any event, to say Turner could keep up great production is wishful thinking at best

To say what you just said is totally worthless at best as you have nothing to support the statement other than the fact that you said it.

I can't believe someone advocated actually giving up a second round pick for Turner.

Yea

because JJ's 17th-best-in-the-league yards total and 36th-in-the-league TD total is just plain insurmountable.

I forgot Julius Jones was the best RB in the game today and couldn't possibly be outperformed by anyone.

My bad.
