My trepidation with Briles as either HC or OC is that his offense is designed to create downfield throwing opportunities. It's a vertical passing attack. We've seen time after time again that one of Romo's weaknesses is the deep ball. He's great underneath and intermediate (especially the seam) but those 9-routes and deep posts are not his strength. I'm sure Briles would adapt and create a net positive out of this offense... but just something to think about.

Art Briles would energize the fan base IMO. Not sure how his tactical acumen would translate to the Nfl, but Chip Kelly is doing all right, I guess.

If they are going to contact college coaches, their first call should be to Bill O'Brien.

Couldn't see him working for this egomaniac, but I'd at least make that call.

Just a piece of info. Just read an article the other day that a very famous coach recently got in contact to bring in Lane in to consult with about the offense.

That coach is Nick Saban at Alabama.

Just something to consider. Even if a team has reached out to talk to another coach it does not always mean they want to talk about his possible interest in becoming a Head coach for that team. They might be like Alabama wanting to talk about offense with Lane. Or a few years ago when the Patriots coaches visited with Oregon HC Chip Kelly about offense and tempo. Or when some college coaches visit with NFL teams to learn things.

Just something to consider.

Appreciate it. Cool story. No I don't take it personally, and honestly I'd poo poo it if it came from someone else too, so no big deal.

I can't link to a phone call! Something may come of it, or not. Truthfully I think teams probably reach out and touch base with a number of coaching candidates, but it may not signify that a guy is under serious consideration. I just heard something from someone who's never led me wrong and relayed it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well, I appreciate the information. Thank you.

I wanted to pass along some information I heard today. Without getting too much into it, I'll just say that I know some people who are involved in college coaching and are very well connected.

So the news: our front office has been in contact with 2 or 3 college coaches about a prospective coaching vacancy. One of those coaches we've contacted is Art Briles. Another is Lane Kiffin.

No word about whether the inquiries are about a head coaching vacancy or the Offensive Coordinator job. Guess we'll see.

Highly doubt Art Briles is even interested in the NFL, he is living the good life at Baylor and committed to staying. The only position IMO he would consider is the Texas Long Horn job or maybe just possibly with the Commanders after a lot of arm twisting, crying by RG3 and his HC wanta be Daddy. Art Briles is a class act and knows he has lifetime job at great university, no way he leaves Baylor.

Oh yeah, this post lost ALL CREDIBILITY when it mentioned Lane Kiffen.......

Didn't Briles sign a long term deal with Baylor recently?

Always thought Jerry would at least put some feelers out regarding Briles. He's a hard core Texan and his daughter has worked for Jerry for a while. They mentioned having a good relationship with him when they got good info on T-Will's work ethic and attitude. His offense wouldn't work exactly the same in the pros as it does in college -- narrower hash marks among other things -- but the smart guys make it work, just like Kelly is at Philly.

Plus, something to consider, I remember Galloway saying that a long time coach (I think it was NFL, maybe college) told him Briles might be the best QB coach and developer in the country, college or pro. And I'd say his history bears that out. Would be very handy for Romo's successor.

Main thing is, though, that Briles might have zero interest in the NFL. He's a good recruiter, partly because he has a great relationship with Texas high school coaches, and just seems more like a college coach.

College coach contracts aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Coaches bounce around constantly. All that matters is his buyout. And if you want him bad enough you pay it no question.

I hope you are right. I dont want that clown anywhere near the team. Isnt it about time this team goes clown-less?

No. It's not. The cowboys are different. I think part of the problem is we need to accept the circus. Embrace it and be loose and run with it

Lane Kiffin would be the last straw for me. Makes Callahan look like Don Coryell.

A new 10 year deal making 4+ million a year moving into a new $260 million dollar stadium next year? I think it would be one hell of a buyout, i'm all for it but don't see it happening.
