I wanted to pass along some information I heard today. Without getting too much into it, I'll just say that I know some people who are involved in college coaching and are very well connected.

So the news: our front office has been in contact with 2 or 3 college coaches about a prospective coaching vacancy. One of those coaches we've contacted is Art Briles. Another is Lane Kiffin.

No word about whether the inquiries are about a head coaching vacancy or the Offensive Coordinator job. Guess we'll see.

Luv the info but not so sure about Lane. I guess our WRs coach could deal with it.

A new 10 year deal making 4+ million a year moving into a new $260 million dollar stadium next year? I think it would be one hell of a buyout, i'm all for it but don't see it happening.

The overall value of the contract is meaningless. His buy out is supposedly around $5 million. Same as Sumlins. Either way I don't think he'd even be a target. But it's not impossible if we wanted him nor would it be for Texas if they peg him to replace Mack.

Didn't Briles sign a long term deal with Baylor recently?

Yes, he did. A ten year contract in fact. But, I think that was probably done just to keep him from taking the University of Texas job.

I will say this for what it is worth: He is a Texan. His wife is a Texan. He has never lived anywhere else. (People from the United States may not understand how those points factor into the equation, but they are BIG). He played high school football in Texas (state championship game he lost to Big Sandy with some player named Lovie Smith). He went to college in Texas. His wife went to college in Texas. His entire coaching career, high school and college, has been in Texas. And the pinnacle of all football jobs in Texas is that of the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. If Jerry Jones calls, he will answer.

Appreciate it. Cool story. No I don't take it personally, and honestly I'd poo poo it if it came from someone else too, so no big deal.

I can't link to a phone call! Something may come of it, or not. Truthfully I think teams probably reach out and touch base with a number of coaching candidates, but it may not signify that a guy is under serious consideration. I just heard something from someone who's never led me wrong and relayed it. Nothing more, nothing less.
I for one an happy with any info regarding the Cowboys. False or true I like to hear it so thank you, some time the truth comes out

So the buyout wouldnt be 40 mill? i get that VT, but its's still a long term deal for Art with a lot of security, great pay and a new stadium, that's hard to walk away from and yes I do think he would be a target.

This was bound to happen LOL, it happened to me with my 100th post or so, I never did it again :)

Message to the OP, without a link nobody believes anything, I´ve been through it.
I said that my brother played golf with Mike Shanahan in Cabo and he told him he was taking the Commanders job 2 weeks later (this was around December 20th, don´t remember the year), nobody believed and I got like 100 responses like this one and guess what, two weeks later Shanahan was in announced as the new HC for the Washington Commanders, moral lesson, don´t take it personal.

edit: I found the link LOL

oh sure. well remember when the Steelers hired Mike Tomlin. I told everybody about the card game I was in with him and how he asked my advice on taking over after Bill Cowher left and I said "do it". Well 3 days later "he takes the job!"

I hope you are right. I dont want that clown anywhere near the team. Isnt it about time this team goes clown-less?

I can definitely see a HC hire from the college ranks ala the Iggles.

Somebody Jerrah can promote and tell him he will help him build his staff and show him the ropes

I wouldn't be completely shocked if Kiffin was hired. It would be a terrible time for Cowboy fans though.

Oh man, can anyone imagine...we finally get rid of the Garrett family and replace them with the Kiffins.

Picture this:
Walk-around HC - Lane
DC - Monte
OC - Wade Wilson

Marinelli bolts to wherever Lovie goes. If this exact scenario were to happen, that could very well be the last straw for me.

Lane Kiffin? If that happens I'm done. Delete my account the day that hire is announced. I will be more than happy watching college ball on Saturday.
