Rumored inside coaching search Info

My trepidation with Briles as either HC or OC is that his offense is designed to create downfield throwing opportunities. It's a vertical passing attack. We've seen time after time again that one of Romo's weaknesses is the deep ball. He's great underneath and intermediate (especially the seam) but those 9-routes and deep posts are not his strength. I'm sure Briles would adapt and create a net positive out of this offense... but just something to think about.

Briles offense is about creating and exploiting with space. Not just vertical passing. The kind of spacing he favors is also conducive to running and quick short passes.

as nauseating as this sounds to you and me, i will guarantee you one thing:

the usual suspects on this site will be in here telling us how great the hire is and to give it time

Oh man- you know what stings the most about that?

You're most likely right...

And I like the "Usual Suspects".
Both the posters and the film.

If they were once or twice a year, I wouldn't be.

But most NFL games now look like BYU versus San Diego State. That is boring when it's virtually like that every game.

It looks like two 10-year-olds playing Madden.

Our head coach has the IQ of a 10 year old so not much difference

If you look at Briles' coaching history, "his" offense is actually pieces of other offenses he gathered along the way. As a head coach, he won championships with the wishbone and then with the spread offense. I think that demonstrates a flexibility and a drive to succeed whatever it takes.

If I'm not mistaking early on in his career he was a big part of Texas Techs high powered offenses under Mike Leach. Mike Leach would be a interesting hire as OC or asst OC. That guy is genius as a play designer but he never ran the ball.

Briles would go to DC before he even thought about coaching Dallas. He's gonna be reunited with his RG3rd string.

Art Briles has been HC at both U of Houston and Baylor. He likes it in Texas.

I would like Briles as an OC candidate.

Lane Kiffin is a disgrace and joke. For him to be a candidate here in Dallas, if true, is just about the only thing more ridiculous than what our current situation is.

I think he was just a position coach, a WR coach or something, and that was only for a couple of years. He actually devised his spread many years before that, in high school where he won multiple state championships. So it's not like he copied Leach. His offense is something he came up with back when people still ran the ball all the time (his first year he ran the wishbone) and has grown and evolved ever since.

Is there not an impressive, bright, young, up and coming, hungry coordinator on someones staff that we could get?

After a slew of bum coaches, .. we need to knock this coaching selection out of the park.

There is NO excuse for the Dallas freakin Cowboys to have such a piss poor staff.

It's all on Jerry & his ego. Just one of the many reasons I cannot stand that man. If he had half a brain he'd realize he could make more money & garner some respect from those he tries to impress the most by getting great coaching in here & leaving them alone.
