One of them would be starting for the Cowboys this season if a few of the knuckleheads here ran the team. I still believe Rush will remain the backup. Grier had a great opportunity last season and didn’t get it done. Rushes 4-1 record last season gives him a big edge.
Grier was hurt last year.

For all you doubters out there, go watch some Will Grier highlights. He's accurate, gets rid of the ball quick and makes good decisions. Sure he doesn't have a rocket arm, but neither did Joe Montana. I like the kid and wouldn't hesitate for him to be QB #2.
I like him a lot. He is certainly better than what the Eagles have as a backup.

Yes. It's hard to displace a player when the team wins with him in the game, no matter who has the better athletic skills. I think Rush would have to cause us to lose a couple of games before Grier could overtake him.

It sucks because there really is no way Grier can win that spot. Rush cemented his spot after what he did last season. I like Rush for what he is but he should not have a spot sewed up. Cowboys won in spite of him but that’s not what matters here…..it should actually be a competition in preseason and let the best man win.
The team goes 4-1 with you at quarterback, you must have done something right. I can't blame the coaches for having confidence in that. Every team would accept that kind of record with their No. 2 no matter how they got it. Doesn't mean you don't try to upgrade, but Rush earned his standing.

And his lollipop arm gives that edge right back.

He was hurt the whole time. He played with the groin injury.
He was cleared to play and didn’t play well. When you’re in the boat he’s in you have to make the most of every opportunity.

Rush benefited heavily from a great defense. Maybe Grier could’ve too. We will never know.

Probably not, just like we'll never know if other backups would have won even if they benefitted from a great defense. Rush had to make some throws, had to not make some mistakes, had to get lucky, etc. The team was 4-1, and he was part of it. That counts for something.

I tend to think quarterbacks get too much credit or too much blame for wins and losses, but there is a degree of validity when you are the player who touches the ball more than any other player but the center. Bad backup quarterbacks lose games that the team should have won. Rush was a good game manager when that is what the team needed him to be. I think it's wrong to take away from that because we've seen some clear examples of QBs who weren't.

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but it’s not likely. The only way we can win with Rush is if our defense plays outstanding and we have a running game. If we get a couple of scores behind with him we’re in trouble. During most of his starts we were only scoring one TD per week. The rest of our points came from Maher.
Yea but that's true for pretty much every backup QB.

Would be nice if guys had to earn their spots on this team every year rather than becoming "made men" with the Jonesboys. For instance, bring in somebody like Alex McGough for competition for both Grier and Rush this year.

They don't need more than 3 qbs on the roster.
