Russ Lande on Travis Frederick

But why haven't they said his position is C, then?

I don't get the position flex thing.

If Costa is healthy and they don't get a good guard today, they'll plug in TF as a guard.

Other than the value on the pick for moving down it looks like we all good on this.

I really am getting sick of hearing this. Value is what someone will pay. Nothing is more valuable than what you can get someone to give you for it, regardless of what you perceive is the true value. The only deal on the table was 31+74 take it or leave it. That means for the 10 minutes they were on the clock, the 18th pick was worth the 31st & 74th and nothing more. They liked it better than what was available at 18. They don't have the ability to force SF to give them more based on some arbitrary and outdated chart.

Who doesn't get excited reading that?

That's exactly what we've all wanted on this team for the longest time.
Have to admit, it got my motor pumping.

They had multiple offers to trade down according to both Jerry and Stephen.
They chose to drop all the way to 31.

Also, just 4 picks later, a much more balanced trade occured.

This may turn out just fine. I prefer tolook forward to tonight vs groaning more about yesterday.

And as far as reaches on day one, Dallas; was nothing compared to some of the other ones.

Good player, I think that's been established. The player isn't what got people going, it was the circumstances.

At the end of the day, you just want a player and we got one.

I think it speaks towards the open competition this summer, the best 5 will play.

Based on the two games I watched last night, that write up is spot on. Guy is powerful as hell. He will literally power you open a hole in the running game and I never saw any player get any push on him in pass protection.

I'm assuming you didn't watch the Penn State game. Jordan Hill tossed him around like a rag doll the entire game.

Unfortunately, that was the only game I saw him play this past year. Hoping that game was an aberration and not an indication of how he plays against elite DTs.

One other point to make; this guy's valuation is all over the board, from 31 (Gary Horton) down to the 90s..

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2013...2013-draft-targets-travis-frederick?ref=yahoo

And when you like a guy with a wide spread of values and must have him, you'll inevitably get second guessed.

It's not the same as a guy whose value is consistently known to be, say, 40-50 or so.. the nearly two round spread of valuations means Dallas *had* to grab him at the high end, if they absolutely wanted him, because although 60% of the scouts had him late in the second or lower, that 40% who did not were really the players in this game.

Drafts are akin to auctions or for that matter, getting married. It only takes one, not a crowd.

i think his grade is all over the place because of one thing... his stupid 40 time. idiots who grade solely on measurables probably have frederick out of the 2nd round. people who base their grades on production, pedigree, and simple eye test probably grade frederick closer to a 1st round grade.

what I heard is that they had a real good deal with Atlanta who then pulled out of it; leaving just the SF offer

People are definitely grading this guy on his 40 time which is ridiculous and unfair. His 20 Yard Shuttle time (which was 4.76, 8 seconds better than Cooper) and his 3 Cone Drill time (which was 7.81, 4 seconds less than Cooper) are more important than the 40 time. The guy is a intelligent and powerful interior offensive linemen that will step in at either G or C and start immediately. Did we reach? Absolutely, but there's no guarantee he would've been there at 47 considering how fast OL are falling in this draft.

if that is true, maybe that is why garrett looked upset in the war room...

Love that write-up on Frederick.

But Lande under valued both Cooper and Warmack more than manybe ay 100 writers out there.

I'm not sure what to think about him at times.

He also had Frederick as the 71st rated player in his original scouting. So that is top of the 3rd round.

What I heard was the Atlanta deal included a 6th but the 3rd was much lower so they opted for the SF deal.

If he starts and does relatively well, it's a good pick period. Now if the guy turns out to be another Brewster or Arkin, that's a different story.

I think they are looking to get the 5 best guys out there. If healthy, I think that is Smith, Livings, Costa, Frederick and probably Free.
