Not a big stretch that after having 3 beers and 3 shots in 4 hours and driving at speeds of 100+mph that he might have possibly been drunk.

What Roger Ebert said isn't really that off the wall.

The guy was funny, I really like the JA movies and it's a tragedy for his friends and family, but he also killed whomever was with him.

Sheer stupidity.

What Roger Ebert said was classless.

How is it classless to essentially say that friends shouldn't let friends drive drunk? Is there a better time for stating the obvious?

Maybe he should wait until sometime we don't have any drunk drivers killing people?

p.s. You're talking about class when referencing a guy that sticks toy cars up his butt and staples his nutsack for movies.

It's poor taste and timing to say "Friends don't let *******es drink and drive." right after the guy dies in a fiery crash. Your level of class shouldn't be dependent on the actions of the person you're talking about, should it?

He wasn't referring to the man personally as a JA, only referencing that he is a member of the JA group. It's just a play on words.

Sorry, I just don't see how it was so offensive. My panties don't get all bunched up over stupid stuff like that. Perhaps I'm the only one.

and what Dunn did was foolish. I understand Dunn friends being upset but if a guy dies from an OD how soon is it to speak out on the subject of the risk of drug use? In this case how soon should the subject of drinking and driving take place? Way too many people are killed due to this foolish act

The jack*** guys got famous for being rude, crude, disgusting *****

Now one gets drunk and drives over 100 miles and hour killing himself and the person riding with him ...... and suddenly the hardcore jack*** fans want people to be classy.

I agree with Roger ...... and I feel bad for his and his victims families.

I didn't find his comments to be all that "jaw-dropping" either.

Sure, what Dunn did was wrong and stupid. It's a mistake that I'm willing to bet a number of people on this forum have made....only this time he killed himself and took another life with him. Not cool.

As far as Ebert, it's not the idea, but the delivery. It was a smart *** way of putting his message out, and he deserves every damn bit of criticism he's getting. If he wanted to say "don't drink and drive", say "don't drink and drive". Better yet, donate some of your millions or become a vocal leader on the subject. Being cute about it, especially this soon after someone's death, and with such insensitivity, is pretty lame IMO.

What they say about two wrongs applies here I think.

Thanks for saving me the time. :) I don't understand how some of you don't get it.

I agree how Ebert did it was not cool . There is a time and place and way of doing the same thing that could have been done to avoid the criticism he is taking. I think even he understood that after the fact.

A few things here.

1) I feel for these guys family and friends. They're the real victims here because they lost loved ones in a way that is completely avoidable with some common sense and thought.

2) There is no longer, in this day and age, for anyone to continue to call drinking and driving a mistake and giving people an out, or excuse, for stupid behavior. There is no way, at all, that people their age do not know the dangers of such stupid actions and I do not feel on bit sorry for someone who kills themselves in a drunk driving accident. You drank, you drove, you did it to yourself.

Thankfully, in this particular case, the two drunk people didn't kill someone else who wasn't drinking and driving but heading home from work, or from a trip, and got killed cause two people decided to be completely reckless idiots and risk not only their own lives (which were lost for no reason other than stupidity) but the lives of anyone else who might have been out.

3) What Roger said wasn't wrong, or off, at any level other than he shouldn't have done it right away simply because of the fact that emotions would be running so high at that time. He's right though. Where were the rest of their friends? When it became clear these two are too stupid to think for themselves why didn't someone else step in? Sometimes you simply can't let people make the decisions for themselves, cause they think they're Gods and nothing can touch them, so you've got to make the decisions for them.

Roger should have waited, to say anything immediately afterwards is insensitive. However his message is clear, and correct, and the response from Bam is actually more laughable to me.

We know you're sad. And we all understand that. But sad, hurt, and insensitive as the timing was your anger toward Roger, for simply pointing out the truth, makes you look foolish.

I'd be much more angry at my friend(s) for being so foolish and making such a stupid, and frankly there is absolutely no other way you can describe it that is anymore fitting, decision. They're the ones that robbed you of their smiles, their jokes, their lives, and caused you to be crying all day, not Roger.

First I agree with you on his delivery and the timing of the message. That's where Roger could have improved.

The bolded part is where we totally differ.

First off it's not a mistake. A mistake is something you make when you didn't know any better. When you didn't know the consequences. A mistake is when you screw up and miss the answer on a math problem because you didn't know how to work the formula properly.

Driving drunk, knowing you can kill yourself or others, isn't a mistake it's a dumb *** choice. Period. There is simply no way around it.

And it's more than 'not cool' that his stupid choice killed himself and another person. Killing someone goes well beyond 'not cool'.
