I don't think you understand. You didnt provide an argument for him to discredit. He wasnt discrediting anything you said using a personal quality, he just said you're full of crap

I provided nothing yet I'm full of crap??? :laugh2:

Then he goes after me personally which is THE very definition of ad hominem attack and I don't understand??? Right, sure pal.

If I say you're full of crap based on what you've said, that's an insult and indicment against your football knowledge

If I say your opinion is invalid BECAUSE you've been full of crap in the past, that's an ad hominem attack

He didnt say your opinion was invalid because you are full of crap, he said you are full of crap based on what he has read in this thread. Your statements arent false because you made them, they are just false, and thus he thinks you're full of crap.

Holy ****, where's the Tylenol?

Mallett was always a late 1st at best.

He probably still is.

He had the best day throwing of all the QBs. He has the best pure pocket passing mechanics.

I wouldn't draft him either but someone will because he has all the tools.

Lol, you're so full of crap.

I actually like Mallett more than most as a player.

But to gloss over his issues and be hyper-critical of everyone else wreaks of Arkansas pig sooie.

Just stating the obvious and cutting to the chase.

Trying to discuss Mallett with you is like trying to have a serious conversation with a 10-year old girl about Justin Bieber.

Thus, you're full of crap.

It's clear who has made false statements and it's not me.

AGAIN here is the an actual definition of ad hominem. Notice, there is no reference to when a statement is made. So please, show where what you state fits this definition.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ad%20hominem

Definition of AD HOMINEM

1
: appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect

2
: marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made

Dude , I think you are missing the whole point that everybody is trying to make. Several of us like Mallett`s potential , but he has some character concerns. Trying to define the posts as one type of attack or the other doesn`t change the facts. If Mallett had a clean late , he could be a top 5 pick. You have been in the pigpen so long that you have got mud in your eyes.

Maybe you missed it the first time, here you go:

An ad hominem (Latin: "to the man"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an attempt to link the validity of a premise to a characteristic or belief of the person advocating the premise.[1] The ad hominem is a classic logical fallacy.

Did you personally offer me a argument or contention that I disregarded?

No.

I simply gave a description of you based on your responses to other people in the thread.

Two things can be equally true. One, I could be in total agreement with you that Mallett is a good QB prospect. Two, I can still think you're full of crap based off the reasoning and bias you used when debating Mallett with others in this thread.

I think the kid is just immature. With some time , he could be something special. I have heard the term " touch pass " used for years . This is the only kid that can throw a 45yd pass that seems to be a " touch pass ". His arm is simply amazing.

Exactly what I think in bold. Everything else you said I see in his game too. Big boy too and is mobile for that size. Seemed humbled but not star struck when interviewed by Cam Newton too.

Again, using YOUR definition.

He attempts to characterize me HERE^^^^^^^^^^^ GET IT??? Attempting to link the validity of my comments to the above.

Thus, you're full of crap.

At this point I give up as it is clear who is full of crap and it's not me.

Unbelievable.

What don't you understand that hasn't been explained redundantly by myself and others on this thread?

If I said something following this line of thinking, "Why would we trust anything alohawg has to say, he's dumb as rocks and has a receeding hairline. Therefore, Ryan Mallett sucks."

That would be a ad hominem attack.

I never made such a claim or any statement (good or bad) regarding Ryan Mallett. Not one. Show me (everyone) where I did.

I simply commented on how you're arguing with others.

And I maintain, you sound like an unreasonable, dyed-in-the-wool, full of crap homer or fanboy when discussing Ryan Mallett.

An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:
  1. Person A makes claim X.
  2. Person B makes an attack on person A.
  3. Therefore A's claim is false.
The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (in most cases) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).

Your density is breathtaking.

Yes, I sure did say that about you.

Where in my statement did I say anything you mentioned about Mallett was false?

That's a descriptive statement of how you handled yourself when debating Mallett with others in the thread.

Look, if you don't have the capacity to learn, I won't hold it against you. But if you insist on using philosophical jargon as if you're intellectually superior, then at least utilize it correctly.

The worst part, you continue with insults while attempting to deny the original insult was an ad hominem attack utilizing (now get ready)...........philosophical jargon.

But look, all philosophical jargon aside, attacking the messenger and not the message is an ad hominem attack not an 'descriptive statement'.

Lol, much like the band on the Titanic, you go down with the ship still playing.

Lol, yes, I suppose in some alternative universe where up is down, black is white, and round means box, you're somehow right in that I've proved your point for you.

Poor ad hominem. Alohawg twisted you until you said "uncle" didn't he?

I think he needs a reality check to bring himself back down to earth........he needs work and if he drafted high I don't think he would put in the necessary work to be a pro QB.

I would love someone to draft him before 9 but that only happens on mock drafts

Let's see, Fairley's attitude is good and Mallett's is a problem??? I like Mallett's attitude and I hate Fairley's. I think he's a punk and has way more potential to be a bad influence in the locker room. I guess one man's bad attitude is anothers good?
The drug rumors? In my opinion they are borderline slander at this point and unless some proof is put forward then they need to stop. It's become a media lynching already and yet it remains nothing more than rumors. Either prove the allegations or stuff it. Anybody can start rumors about any player and within minutes it's repeated ad nauseum via twitter and blogs, polly parrots.
Meanwhile Cam gets a pass on his 'issues' even in the midst of allegations that are every bit as legit if not more than Mallett's, that he was heard in the background of audio tapes as his daddy was negotiating his services. Where are those questions today???

Well as Hog alumni, I of course, love what he has done for the program. He has a great arm, and a butt load of talent.

But you say here, its a drug rumor. I do hate to disappoint you there, but its not a rumor. Its a fact. Does that affect my stance on him as a player, well its a flag that makes you wonder how he will react when he gets his money. But do other successful athletes do it.....well of course.

Been reading this thread for forever, and I really had to make that clear. Do I have a link or whatever that states it in the paper....no. But trust me, herb is in the picture.

I think he is trying to minimize Mallett`s problems due to the fact that other prospects have concerns , but he is not doing a good job of it.
