It doesn't bother me "so much." It's a waste time. There's no need to do this move this early. Other teams are signing quality depth and we're looking at camp bodies already.

Please don't be mad at the "touchdown cowboys" comment.

With all due respect, I believe this guy has started something like 19 games in his career at two different positions in his first 3 seasons. Regardless of how well he did (as long as he wasn't a liability), this seems a bit more than camp fodder. But if it the Cowboys end up with 90 other guys better than him by the time camp starts, no harm done if we need to release him. This signing is not going to prevent us from signing anyone else.

So, Tony making 27.5 million this year isn't???

He's really only making 17mill this year. The other 10.5mill is from how they set up the contract, signing bonus, option bonus and restructure bonus. But it is a 27.5mill cap hit. Most in the NFL.

Romo - 1st highest overall, 1st highest QB
Dez - 31st highest overall, 2nd highest WR
Carr - 32nd highest overall, 3rd highest CB
Witten - 83rd highest overall, 4th highest TE

Those 4 cap hits are why we aren't able to do anything significant. Why, because outside of Dez, those are the contracts we have kept pushing forward and pushing forward.

Kent Brockman: Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

Professor: Yes I would, Kent.

I think it's because people see these moves happening near the beginning of free agency while other teams are signing name-players for millions in signing bonuses... many probably assume that players like this can easily be had right before camp. Not sure if I agree or disagree, just trying to understand the logic for the hate.

the logic is the neural impulse to negatively react

You pretty much hit it right here. Also, how much did our 2 FBs, and the CB count towards our 8 million of cap space? I'm sure it's not much, but its taking away from the pie to sign an impact player.

Is that what I said?

Basically you did, as if we weren't trying to make the team better because we didn't jump on the big names in the first week of free agency. There are other ways of adding players than by getting into bidding wars in the first week of free agency.

I don't think sitting out early FA is a good strategy. We have gotten carried away with bargain hunting at the expense of missing on some very solid players.

Would you prefer paying "very solid players" as if they were great players? And you think that is a good strategy?

A wonder why everyone believes you have sign guys that are big money even there own other than a LT or QB. Look at Green Bay, New England, and other teams that are continually in the playoffs and competing for the Super Bowl. What big free agent has Green Bay signed other than the RT and WR of their own and last year they got Peppers on the virtual cheap. If Dallas wanted to keep pushing money forward then sure we could have signed Murray but he would have been or might have been the only one worth a big contract and would we even be saying this if he had 1200 yards last year and now 1800. Doubt it.

Last year we questioned McClain signing and really all the rest. Apparently the media and us were wrong. Somehow I will not be surprised again. We still have the draft and people forget we have guys coming back off of IR that the coaching staff and Willie McClay thought would be pretty good players in our system in Whaley DT, Coleman DT, Gardner DE and even guys like Brent DT and Okoye DT. Think I will worry in August or September. And RB, well going to take a wait and see attitude. Just wonder what if McFadden gets 1500 yards with our line or Williams or a draft pick, wonder what we will be saying about the deal the didn't do then.

You can misrepresent what I said to make what ever point you want. I know you are pro-restructures and maxing out the cap as well. All options should be on the table. By going this route they are eliminating one of the main routes to improvement.

The problem has always been choosing the right players. I would rather over pay a little in FA and get most of what I am paying for than sit it out completely and hope on a bunch of no names, who may or not make it.

As a slot corner, he is supposed to be pretty solid in that role. As far as Saints fans say.

I think Willie McClay is a big key to the Cowboys recent success in player acquisitions.
