Bingo. Dez was never the same after those injuries.

it’s a shame but it happens to some athletes. It’s just the nature of the beast.

26 years of trash will make fans irrational and takes their anger out on someone like Dez.

Add in the fact these folks are typically miserable in their personal life...

They shouldn't of dumped him late but he was hardly a fall guy.

Let's be real here, Dez had 2 years 35 million left (with another 8 million in prorated money on top of that).

There was zero chance he was staying on the roster with that price tag regardless of them needing this supposed "fall guy label".

Doubt it. 90% of teams would of cut him for his production to price tag ratio (2 years 35 million + another 8 million in prorated bonuses).

Very few if any NFL teams are paying that production for someone in a 3 year skid, if anything we make fun of the cowboys for being one of the few teams for keeping cap casualitys too long (the Dez cut was one of the few times the cowboys actually made a signficant and logical cap savings cut )

I don’t get how people hate on a guy like Dez. He always played hard and with heart. He was just trying to do what he thought was best for himself financially. I would hardly call turning down a multi-year deal for a 1 year prove it deal “greedy”. Sadly injuries derailed his career and left him unable to play at the level we were accustomed to.

That means he became arrogant, loud and selfish. He became a diva like Irvin but with half the talent Irvin had.

There was one story that made me concerned he lived the entourage life. Didn't some landlord sue Dez for trashing his place that he was renting. The guy made it seem like all Dez did was party and ruined his place. But that was early in his career. Hopefully being a father grounded him.

Things I worry about with these guys, especially someone like Dez that was so physical. They pretty much put their bodies to the test for 5 or 10 years. Lots of hits and lots of injuries. This is great cuz you're making millions. If they don't save their money good or are smart with their finances they can be done with football with a lot of medical issues and no millions coming in. Also lots of blows to the head so maybe mental health stuff. If you're broke, in pain and mentally compromised then that's a recipe for disaster. Another guy I worry about is Marion Barber. Last I heard he wasn't doing too good.

Guys like Dez and Barber who were so physical are more at risk for a rough retirement. That's why I hope both of them got some money saved up for any rainy days.

I agree. To begin with, the idea of a player being used as a "fall guy" isn't even realistic. Did anyone really think Dez's release would cause the entirety of the media and Cowboy fans to blame all Cowboy failures on Dez, and that fans would forget about the failures of the rest of the team and team management? For all his faults, Jerry would realize that's not realistic. It's just way too far fetched.

And, like you said, it wasn't just the Cowboys that shied away from Dez. There were doubts all over the NFL.

Its funny how i get suspended for a few days explaining the truth of why many Dak haters here hate Dak for reasons outside of football...

But this coward *** punk can make a "monkey" reference to a player of color and nothing happens to that particular poster. I definitely see whats going on here. I probably get suspended again for telling the truth because those particular people dont like truth being told. I could care less.

Sounds like you got suspended for good reason.

Also looks like the monkey reference was to...an actual Monkey, owned by Dez, no?

    The one named...Dallas?

If one does not think highly of Dez, and his maturity, is it not reasonable they might feel sorry for an animal in his care?

I will always remember Dez for having some of the greatest physical gifts I have ever seen and for running some of the worst routes I have ever seen. I really don't miss that brain dead moron at all.

I can still remember Dez getting the DB to jump inside off the line, then running a slant directly into the WR, still somehow making the catch, throwing the DB aside and running for a first down. It was both incredibly stupid and incredible spectacular at the same time. It is Dez personified.

You got suspended once for writing super threatening PMs. Let’s not act altruistic here. BUT I’m all good and you are right that people should not be allowed to say stuff that refers to race.

..he did, rather than coming down with it at one yard line, he tried the superhero approach. Failed.

This absolutely made me laugh out loud.

Dez had only a few routes he could run. I watched him his second year in training camp. They had him pulled aside, accompanied by a coach with what appeared to be the route book. They spent the two days I was, both morning and afternoon practices working with him individually. Yet he could not run every route in the tree. Or even half of them. The 50/50. Maybe a sidelines comeback.

Dez was built for the Jerry Rice crossing route. But did he ever master that? Nope. What he could do, he could do well. But there was no mystery about where he was going when he stepped to the line of scrimmage.
