I sometimes get on a soapbox and go off on a rant. The thread below is one of my best ever. It addresses this aspect of your post.ArmoredSaint;1319539 said:As Billy Shakesphere once said, "What's in a name?" The "America's Team" moniker has been applied to the Saints because the media loves the storyline of a team of lovable losers rising from the wreckage of Katrina. Once the 2007 season is in full swing, the name will once again be applied to the Cowboys.
No one is offended by "Titletown." That's my point. People get seriously chapped about "America's Team."ArmoredSaint;1319585 said:Right, and Green Bay calls itself Titletown, so it's relative. I think the "America's Team" came about because of Tom Landry and the fact that he stressed the pursuit of excellence with character. Add to that the fact that he became a HOF head coach on those ideals.

Pats Fan;1320059 said:When things were simple, many years ago, football was almost as popular as it is now. There were also many baseball, basketball, hockey fans -- not as many today, at least not as much passion.
Times were so much easier many years ago. The Boys were a team that won, and not only, were exciting to watch. Plus there were not as many teams so a large part of the country did not watch their own "home team". As the Boys continued to win in the early '90's, America's team came to being. And it was real.
But things changed. More teams came into being. The Boys started to lose. It was pretty simple. The Boys were America's team as late as the late '90's. Now things are different.
I am an example of that. And no, I am not a fair weather fan. A season ticket holder of the Pats for 30 years. So while you were winning in the early '90's, we were going 1-15. So as a former Boys fan, I started going to the Patriot games. I became a fan. Big one. 1-15, what who cares. We had the most fun in those early days when times were simple -- and we lost just about every week.
A fan wants to root for their home team. Period. And there are lots of teams. And may I add, I think most are loyal to the core. Flat out loyal. Hey, try a Brown fan. Dog pound already. A die-hard fan. I respect that.
So, all this being said, I say, the days of America's team are over. Long over. Will there be fans -- not really fans -- that just go with the winner. Sure, and would you want them as your fan. NOT.
As far as the Saints, I think after what that city went through it is flat out great what is happening to their football team. Just flat out great. Would I like to see them win the Bowl, sure. Straight out SURE.
What you say, are you not a Pats fan. Yes, but we should not have even gotten as far as we have. I have a feeling, a good one, next year is ours. That being said, I want the Saints to win.
Are they America's team, no. Are the Boys, no. Is anyone, no. You are a fan of a team, even those teams at the bottom. A fan of YOUR team.
Would be nice to see a Saints win though. How bout Bush. Gee, the Texans were flat out dumb to pass on that guy.
Off.

That is all the answer I need.
Now take a drive to New Orleans, now take a drive to Chicago, now take a drive to Indy.
Nuff said. You are living in the past. Sorry.

This is a well thought out post, but I am going to disagree with you on your premise there.Pats Fan;1320059 said:When things were simple, many years ago, football was almost as popular as it is now. I will bet you 100 bucks that I can find more Cowboys fans in New England, Chicago, and New Orleans, than you can find Patriots, Bears, and Saints fans in Dallas.Pats Fan;1320092 said:Perhaps Boyz, you should take a drive to New England. Tell me how many Cowboy jerseys you see.
