Both sides of the argument are right and wrong on this one. Philly will be up to play Dallas no matter what is said by who. On the other hand, great coaches like Belichick and Parcells would have near cardiac arrests if one of their players said something like what Hurd did. There is good reason those guys keep their player's mouths shut to the media.
Heck, I remember hearing about Bill Belichick going off the deep end in 2007 because Meriweather (a rookie safety at the time) said that Wes Welker was the best slot reciever in the NFL. Belichick brought him up in front of the team, showed him the newspaper where he was quoted and yelled at him, "Who the **** are you? Who the **** is Brandon Meriweather to know who is the best slot reciever in the NFL?"
Belichick keeps all his players saying only how good the next opponent is and how hard it will be to try to overcome them.
Maybe coaches shouldn't go to that extreme... but there have been a lot of good coaches through the years that would be horrified at what Hurd said about a proven pro bowler on a Division rival's team.
Now Jimmy Johnson did do the "Three inch headlines" deal during playoffs... but it should be noted that it was the coach himself (and he had his reasons for doing so)... not any of his players. His players didn't make any remarks like that to the media and he likely wanted it that way.
I suppose you could argue either side of this subject... me myself? I just tend to side with Parcells and Belichick on this matter. Just shut up and let your play speak for itself.
And for the record, I think Felix is going to be better than Westy has been and that is saying a lot because Brian has been a good one.
