Sam Shields, "It was a catch"

This is what Ryan Clark said. Almost everyone considered it a catch. However, the rules as presently applied say it's a non-catch. But it was nice of Sam Shield to say what he did. He didn't have to.

A pro athlete 1ft from the play said it was a catch. A ref 5 feet from the play said it was a catch. They both know the rule. It was a catch.

Look at it this way- because of the catch/non-catch situation, we get to basically assume we would have won the Super Bowl this year (now and forever more) with a legit gripe about why we got shafted, despite the possibility that we may have still lost to Green Bay in the remaining time left, might have lost to Seattle the following week, and could have been beaten by the Patriots in the super bowl...
but because of that crappy rule-
we are the real champs because everyone knows we would have won it all! ;) Go Cowboys!

He's just another player. We all think it was a catch but we don't get a vote. Get over it.

I'm over it, but if Blandino comes out two months from now and says he was wrong or something like that, there will rightly be discussion of it.

And I'll be glad to contribute my thoughts at that time.

I'm not holding my breath. Besides, I hope he doesn't. It will only infuriate the fan base. Sometimes, it's best to let sleeping dogs lie. Just move ahead and change the rules to address particular situations such as the Dez no-catch.

Too bad there is zero that can be done about it now.

Well, it's a huge embarrassment for the league. And they know what an opportunity they missed -- could have been an all time classic game. The fact that the NFL is just getting eaten alive gives me some solace.

One of the all time great throws and catches. The perfect throw, the incredible leap for the ball, the chill of the wisconsin air visible in every frame. Stolen. Will never forget this

Does anyone else see how eerily similar this play is to the Aikman to Irvin potential TD that was taken away in the 1994 NFC championship game because of a blatant PI on Deion? Muddy field, QB throws up the left sideline to #88 who is in single coverage. And in both cases, the Cowboys got royally screwed and ruined very legitimate chances to win the game.

I don't recall seeing the league ever saying anything but it wasn't a catch but going on & on about that stupid rule..I didn't watch any TV about the game after Monday because I just didn't want to hear it anymore. Just came here to see what fans were reading & such but no TV!

I don't know what to think about the NFL anymore.

They won't say it publicly but they know. They know they royally screwed this up.

Not only was it a catch. The rules as they are presently written and applied weren't even followed..............................."Irrefutable evidence"

I haven't seen anyplace where a Packer talked about the game and disputed it wasn't a catch.

The worst I've seen is along the lines "We can only control we can control..."

I think it's easier for the Packers to admit it because it (A) It costs them nothing to do so and (B) Even if it was a catch, the game was likely a 50/50 proposition at that point going forward.

55/45 our way according to analytics.

This is not true. He had control got two feet down and made an act common to the game. At that point he is a runner and the process of catching the ball was completed. The Calvin Johnson rule no longer applies. But i'm done arguing this.

If a single one of my friends tells me to my face "Time to move on", I will slap the mess out of them. No, it's not time to move on. You move on when closure happens. There has not been any closure. Just some garbage deflated balls crap to throw everyone off topic from the worst call in the history of the NFL. A call that cost these boys a shot at the SB. Are there other factors that are in that game that could have made Dallas better positioned for the win? Sure. Same could be said for GB. Games are like that, but that call flat out ruined the rest of the game and what might have been there after.

the call that was overturned - lions - cowboys got the rule

the catch not ruled a catch - packers

and now a football. have fun with that crap. NFL...!

(stupid cowboy fans)?

That rule and it's long winded detail of the process should have never been approved.
However, the rules as presently applied say it's a non-catch.
If anybody tells you, "Well, that's the rule. Good call, bad rule," remind them that the rule they're talking about applies only to receivers, not runners. According to the field judge's ruling on the field, Dez was a runner who was down by contact.

So, it's not the rule that's the problem here. The problem was Steratore and Blandino misapplying this rule (that deals only with receivers in the act of catching a ball), and then defending their overturn of the call by simply explaining how that misapplied rule works, instead of talking about the play as it was ruled on the field.

And it is extremely fishy.

Blandino is the mafia's mouthpiece. Of course his explanation is fishy. This guy's qualifications for the job he has are even fishier.

Notice the GB player rushing free on the blind side. A pivot back that way and pass to Beaz was possible but much more risky than some think.
Beautiful pass and better catch.
