Two completely different situations.
It shows the Cowboys aren’t afraid to move on from a high round pick after a short period of time. This is a critical season for Sam Williams, and even he admitted that in an interview a few months ago.

That Kneeland pick is looking better and better, hope the young man can bring it.

It is a critical season for Williams (doesn't really matter who is saying it although everyone is) but getting hurt doesn't change the fact they are aren't cutting him next year.

Taco situation has nothing to do with Williams.

I can guarantee you other than us and the Bengals, the other NFL GMs are wkg 12-18 days to improve their rosters. Our GM is preoccupied with being in court, accepting his father of the year award, and closing business deals to maximize profit so hes not concerned w wkg long hours to improve our roster. Hes off w call girls this week. Maybe he can do some GM tasks next week.
So you're not being negative, just a concerned fan?

So it’s a 100% guarantee in your mind that he’ll be on the team in 2025? It’s not that sure a bet. If he misses the entire 2024 season, it’s going to set him way back. He could be rehabbing into next year‘s training camp. Let’s say he’s not going to be ready until two or three games into the 2025 season. They may decide to move on. Let’s say he doesn’t look very good in training camp next season. That could spell the end for him depending on what we do in the draft and free agency. Again, I’m not saying he won’t make the team in 2025 but there’s no guarantee.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the Cowboys can use the PUP to their advantage with a guy like this, he doesn't make much money, and they probably give him every opportunity to flash upside so they can get a comp pick when he walks in free agency. Odds are he still makes the team in 2025 in some capacity.

Since he already practiced. He can’t be put on PUP. Has to be designated before TC starts.

So it is IR and miss the season. Or if expected back during the season. He makes the 53. Then moved to IR and can return in 6 to 8 weeks.

The odds are in his favor that he will be on the team in 2025 if he misses the entire 2024 season but again there’s no guarantees. He’s been penalty prone. There’s some Randy Gregory in him. They’ll be looking to replace him in the draft next April because no assurances he can return to form from this injury if it is serious.

He was pretty mid a season ago, but I think they were counting on him to progress this year to take Armstrongs snaps. Edge rushers are looking pretty thin after Micah and Dlaw right now. I would have to assume they a strong 3rd edge guy would be important not only for rotational purposes, but you'd probably like to kick DLaw inside at times too. I don't want to overstate what a loss a pretty average player like Williams actually is, but I can see a bad ripple effect if a Kneeland, Gholston, or Fehoko cant effectively take his snaps.
I get that but it’s hard to miss what we don’t know. I hoped he could be a Armstrong replacement but we didn’t know if he would.
