Is it Armstrong and Fowler who are edge contain like a leaking hefty plastic bag . First week TB made a living on the perimeter last week Norv Turners son had that light bulb go off . McVay won’t miss that on film . DLaw is not one dimensional he’s always disrupting the run, hope Williams study’s for the test .

He's only played 18% of defensive snaps so it's hard to make a true judgement on how he's doing. However, from what I've seen he definitely has a nice burst and works well to the ball carrier.

Fowler though has played 30% of snaps and he's shown up more with his opportunities this season than Williams. I fully expect this to be more of a red shirt season for Williams, but it'll be interesting how the snap count goes as the season moves along.

Minus the penalties he's had, how has this young man impressed you so far. We worked him out (Quinn) saw something special in him, to take him. I know we have a lot of depth, but is there anything that you saw that sticks out so far??
He’s a talented kid with an outstanding skillset, who need’s development. Think he can be a Brandon Graham/Trent Cole esq player next season if they continue to bring him on slowly with 8 to 10 snaps per game. The saying you draft for 4 seasons not one rings true with this kid!

He has been way overhyped. He has some athletic ability, but he needs to develop into a football player at the NFL level. I suspect he will be one of the guys who they will say made a big leap in the offseason next year.

Williams is strong, fast and mean. Give SW time to develop.

My question is what are they going to do with Basham when he is healthy again? Who's giving up snaps for Basham to play?

He’s made a couple of plays but haven’t really noticed him much. There were concerns about him being a liability against the run which may be limiting his snaps.

He is very good vs run.

That was the book on him coming out of college that he was a liability against the run. At least that’s what I was hearing. Can’t say I’ve seen him on the field a whole lot he’s only had four tackles this season.

He played 3-4 DE in college.

5 tech DE responsible for 2 gapping and playing run first instead of rushing passer first. 5 tech usually weigh between 275-300.

9 tech DE only responsible for 1 gap.

Very different responsibilities.

Williams is raw for this reason, used out of position in school.

He’s had four tackles and one QB hit. Not a whole lot for a guy they were hyping up in training camp as a great pass rusher. Some fans were trying to compare him with Parsons. I told everyone then to tap the brakes! Lol

He has had only 61 total snaps on defense. So look at the context of it. Can't compare to players getting 45 a game.
It doesn't give a break down on pass vs. rush attempts.
He has far more snaps on ST's.

I never seen anyone comparing him to Micah. Then again, I probably missed those posts.

I know i said he had a Micah type burst at times.

I thought we would be getting more out of Sam to this point. It seems to me he is thinking to much out there and not just going ....when he gets to that point he will destroy people.

Thought he was a major reach when we drafted him and wasn’t happy with the pick. Liked the prospect just took him too early.

Seeing as he’s barely been on the field so far pretty disappointed that’s what we’re getting out of a premium draft pick.

Concerns against the run are limiting his snaps. Fans on this board were comparing him to Parsons all this summer. Here’s an article comparing him to Parsons.

Huh?
This was not comparing them. It was a question from a fan, asking about Williams and Quinn's plan to use him like they do Parsons.
Because his COMBINE measurable are similar to Parsons.
They answer even said, you can't compare them, as if there was a chance he could be a Parsons, he would have went much higher in the draft. As well, many considered where Dallas took Williams was a reach.

Not sure how you get he is being compared.

The point is fans are comparing him to Parsons which is why the question was asked. There were posts all over the board this summer with fans trying to compare him to Parsons. I pointed out several times that Williams wasn’t drafted near as high as Parsons but some fans were acting like they’re the same player. lol There was a big thread that was started here about it but I can’t locate it.

I guess I missed some of them. Or just don't remember. I do recall some asking if he could be like Parsons as a pass rusher. I am sure there were some comparisons. But that is not necessarily a bad thing.
Been far worse comparisons I guess.

I do not have high expectations for him this year, just want to see some solid improvements as the season goes along.

There was a huge thread with a number of fans trying to compare him to Parsons. There were comments in other threads all over the board comparing them. I’m not saying he’s not going to develop into a good player but fans tend to go way overboard on players we draft. There was even a thread predicting how many sacks Williams would get and some fans were predicting double digits. There was more love for Williams than there was for Parsons when we drafted him because a lot of fans didn’t like the Parsons pick. A lot of fans didn’t like the idea of us drafting a linebacker and were disappointed we didn’t end up with one of the corners or Slater the LT.
