starting four years for a major university means nothing when by consensus those four years they had the worst O Line in the schools history.

Agreed...

Yep. It's experience, but it's bad experience.

I wouldn't totally rule him out as a decent backup. That's still my hope. A guy who can play RT in a pinch.

Columbo was struggling last year ... it was quite obvious.

And yet the team didn't see fit to give Young playing time.

That's a red flag, IMO, as bad as Columbo was and given that the team wasn't in the mix for the playoffs.

That is what people said about Free before he got a chance to play

That's not true. Free was considered an outstanding athlete - quick feet etc ... needed to get stronger. And Free was behind Flozell and a healthy Colombo. Young was behind a struggling Colombo who was on a serious decline after yet another injury in his career, and this one at a more advanced age than all his previous injuries. And Young is not considered the same kind of athlete Free was.

There was still some talk that Free wasn't doing well and why wasn't he getting playing time over Flo.

There is always talk - especially when people are disgruntled. People imagine all sorts of things when things don't play out as they think they should. But I never read or heard anything about Free not being athletically capable of playing the position, and he was playing behind veterans who, while aging, were veteran fixtures. After being injured in 2009 and clearly outplayed by his replacement, and then playing poorly in 2010, Colombo wasn't exactly on solid ground anymore.

The one thing i will say though that makes Young's situation different is that Young was a mere rookie last year. Regardless of how talented anyone thinks Young is, it's obviously understandable that the team would be hesitant about putting a rookie in a starting role. I also seem to recall Young was hurt some early on, which would have slowed his development some.

What? The last two offseason I've read plenty about Free needing to play RT, that he isn't gifted enough to play LT. Idiot former OL on nflnetwork were even stating it.

No offense but I don't trust what Broaddus says...

So who are believing in the reports of poor performance?

Archer? McMahon?

Your source of information must be posters on here because I have never seen or heard anything like that from a coach or scouting sources. The asset he brought with him from college was his speed and quickness, not his brute strength.

The only thing negative on Young is from the media. You must have missed the crap from nflnetwork. Before Free got a chance to start the local media was being negative about Free in camp also.

Most of the scouting sources I read before the draft talked about him being a little slow footed and not capable of playing LT. There is a reason a 4 year starter at a major university falls to the 5th round, and why a small school player gets drafted in a higher round.
