Wow...too many angry posters to respond to all.

I'm not drinking the kool-aid, nor am I absolving everyone of guilt. I am saying we played competitively against the Giants and Broncos and lost two games to teams that are better than we are.

I get mad when we do stupid things and lose to weaker teams. Every team makes stupid plays every week. the Giants were far from perfect against us, and the Broncos didn't do any better than we did. We didn't give those teams the wins...they took them. Why?

I happen to believe with no doubt that the NY Giants are a better football team than the Cowboys. I also think the Eagles are better. Both teams have been better than us for a while now...why would we suddenly be better than they are.

I had my doubts about Denver because I didn't really know much about them and didn't buy into that #1 defense, but I have to say we were beaten by a better team in the fourth quarter in a stadium that's known to be one of the real home field advantages.

What I'm doing is admitting that the Dallas Cowboys football team is not one of the better teams in the NFL. I think we're probably middle of the pack and can only hope to scrape together a wild card run. I think the deluded fans are the ones who think a different coach, a different OC, or a different gm would take this same team and win the NFC East with it...that's what I call deluded.

I believe our guys are ready to play football every week and are playing their guts out, something we questioned the past two years. I just don't think we're good enough to beat some of the best teams yet. At some point this season, we'll have to pull out a couple of wins against top teams in close games if we hope to make the playoffs....maybe we will or maybe we won't, but I don't get mad when we play hard and lose to a better team.

The Broncos proved they have a better team, as did the Giants, imo.

Next week we'll beat KC....that doesn't mean we're a playoff team....it just means we're not a bottom feeder like we were for several years before Parcells arrival. I feel like we have a defense that is only going to get better and better, which has the look of an upper tier defense. Even when Tony Romo has a good game, assuming there are still some of those coming this year, this offense is going to struggle against some of the best defenses. The offense, even with a good Romo, is not among the top offenses in the league.

We will struggle mightily to move ahead of either Philly or NY this season. I'm merely accepting reality, but somehow others find that to be a positive thing or drinking the kool-aid....far from it.

Great post

If we're going to lose I'd rather go 5-11 so that we can get a decent draft pick out of it. No point in going 9-7 or 8-8 and not making the playoffs.

It's Jerry's fault.
It's Wade's fault.
It's Garrett's fault.
It's Romo's fault.

Does anyone ever consider that the #1 defense in the NFL just proved to us that they are legitimately #1?
Does anyone ever consider that we're still a very good team, but like the NYG loss, we lost to a better team? and this one on the road at the end of the game?

Why do so many people think we're the greatest team around, but poorly coached or underachieving?

To me, this was a very hard fought defensive game, and the #1 defense in the NFL did just enough to beat the Dallas Cowboys and hold us off at the 1 yard line with our top receiver out of the game.

We're 2-2, and our two losses were to two undefeated teams, both losses coming at the end of the game.

I'm not happy with losing, and I'm not trying to look on the bright side, but unless you are simply deluded enough to think the Cowboys are the best team in the NFL, but the coach and/or owner-gm are holding them back, then this is just the way it goes some weeks.

Washington has an identical 2-2 record, but every team they've played had 0 wins when they played them. StL and TB are both still winless, while Detroit's only win was against the Skins. The Cowboys have two very tight losses against teams that are both 4-0.

I'm not throwing in the towel yet.

No...I'm guessing you're just not a very smart guy and have a reading comprehension problem. From the original post:

It's clear I said the same thing in both posts...no spinning. I hope that clears it up for you, Opie. :D

Actually all of those are very realistic, virtually in that order too.

This team just isn't that good. Thus the two losses to two better teams.

We're mediocre until proven otherwise.

So, in other words, you're not throwing in the towel because we lost to two teams that are clearly better than us? It seems to me that a team that loses to every good-to-very-good team is not likely to make the playoffs, let alone win a playoff game.

Both of those losses came down to the final second of the game. From that, you could infer that we're very close to beating those good teams. If we just play a little better, we can start winning those games. It's not like we need a ton of improvement just to hang with those teams. We just need a little improvement to start beating them. And it's not like we don't have room to improve.

All very true but I will believe it when I see it with this group. For the first time since Wade took over, last night's game switched my default setting from 'believer' to 'skeptic'.

I really dont think there is any team in the NFL that is just hands down better then us talent wise. There are a ton of teams that play better then the Cowboys do week in and week out, but I dont see how you can look at their rosters and say man they are just way more talented then we are. I dont see it.

The Giants play as a team and they play well consistently, something Dallas just cant seem to figure out how to do.

I simply don't agree that Denver is a better team. With some better calls (well documented in the Daily Zone), this would have been a W. And if their offense has more physical talent than Dallas...ugh.

Romo simply isn't the Romo who put together all the wonderful stats that everyone quotes. He hasn't looked right all year--even Panthers fans saw that in their defeat. Regardless of how much blame he gets for that, there are two coaches who were expected to help complete his progression as a QB. Most people agree that he looks less confident now than at any point in his career, including his first year, so that has to be an indictment of the coaching staff to some extent.

Now the effort HAS been there, but in recent years that hasn't been questioned until later in the season. With Wade in charge, I'll be surprised if this team doesn't implode if they lose a few more games like this.

I am in total agreement with you in this regards. The only problem is that we've been close without being able to get over the hump for three years now, but the problem still remains. Owens was not the problem. He may have been a media distraction, but he was not the reason we could not get over the hump. Pacman Jones wasn't the problem, neither was Roy Williams (SS), Greg Ellis, Brian Stewart, etc etc. They may have helped contribute to or worsen the problem, but they were not the reason we could not get over the hump. If they were, we wouldn't be having this conversation now.

When the Check Engine light comes on in your car, you can replace the tires and get a new paint job all you want, but it still isn't going to make that check engine light go away. You will have a shiny, brand new looking car on the outside, but your car still won't run at its optimal level until you fix the problem inside. If the engine is continually ignored, the car will get worse and worse until it eventually breaks down. The car is the Cowboys and the engine is Jerry Jones and the inept coaching staff. Until that is fixed, we will continue to be mediocre.

What is the average margin of victory in the NFL?

In 2005, it was 11.7 points.

I'll see if I can find a more recent number.

Edit: Last year, it was 12.1 points.

almost, maybe next year, we'll play smarter.

I'm confused. Was yesterday's margin of defeat supposed to provide solace or something? If so, massive fail.

Who cares about solace?

When you get ready to watch a football game, you go into it hoping for solace?

Solace? Seriously?

If it's insignificant, then why bring it up? If not to take the stink off of yesterday's performances, then why? Enlighten us.

Someone else brought up the margin of defeat, not me. And I explained my post rather well.
