I liked Van Halen with both Guys. However OU812 was crap...then again Fair warning only had a couple great songs with the rest being filler.

Without Van Halen, Dave has had two good albums and I am counting Eat them and Smile as one and a combo of crazy from the heat and Skyscraper as one because neither were great on their own.

Sammy has worked with Montrose (some great early stuff), his solo stuff, Van Halen and Chickenfoot and has had a much better career overall.

Plus...Sammy does not come across as a looney tunes tool bag like Dave does most of the time.

Love Van Halen and Van Hagar. Is that possible? DLR was a hell of a front man for VH, DLR sucked on his own. Hagar was great either way. The Standing Hampton tour was one of the best live shows I ever saw.
Eat Em and Smile insane. Blew 5150 out of the water.

Today, Steel Panther does Van Halen better than Van Halen does:

Fun Steel Panther facts of the day...

Guitarist and Singer were in the original Atomic Punks tribute band.
Guitarist was the lead in Rob Halford's solo gig outside of Judas Priest
Singer was in the movie Rockstar doing a "Steel Dragon" song in DLR-style
Singer has a PhD in Englich from Berkley

I know these guys pretty well.

They're Awesome. A talented, fun band that has a good time and doesn't take themselves too seriously. They bring back great memories of the hair band era.

Didn't know Ralph had a PhD in English, anyways love SP. They don't take themselves to seriously, they have the chops to back it up and most of all they are fun, which is the exact opposite of the cruddola that Cobain and company put out. O look at me standing in one place on the stage while looking at the ground complaining about how hard life must be.

This was Lounge Act Dave and he conceded as much. He wasn't into having a rock band at that point. He wanted new and weird stuff. Not a fair comparison
I believe no rock band was into having him is more like it, like I said I love DLR with VH, this crap was so bad he probably shouldn't have been allowed in public again. I'll admit I really never gave DLR much of a chance when he left VH I was so pissed at him. I also blame Hostile because I would have never known DLR did this crap if he wouldn't have posted a video in one of these threads to show me. lol

They are going to be at the Roxy on the Sunset strip for 4 shows on Halloween, and first 3 thursdays in Nov. Our band used to rehearse in the same place that the Ralph (singer) in 1991-1993. We jammed a bit. super good guys who just love the music and having fun.

Dave has always been an interesting guy. For the "party dude" he is he has vast amounts of interests. He could have continued with bands in the late 1990s and 200s if he wanted. Look at Vince Neil, he gets respected musicians to be in his solo band. Dave did a stint as an EMT, learned martial arts, moved to Japan, tried Radio, etc. He didnt want to be a nostalgia act. The bluegrass thing came from a Nashville bluegrass group doing classic rock and he heard it. He thought it would be cool. It wasn't, but I dont begrudge him for doing something new.

On a side note, I always thought the rock/metal fanbase was one of the most fickle and close minded on the planet. You could never like Poison AND Metallica or Megadeth. Everyone panned GnR and Axl's Chinese democracy and most never heard it. It was either Van Halen or Van Hagar, not both and no one gave Cherone a chance. If a bad reunites and an (alive) member doesnt join, then it all has to suck, etc, etc

you just dont see that in fighting in other genres and it has led to the death of the genre in my opinion.

Love me some steel panther.

Back to VH...When, if, are they going to put out an album of new music and not just remastered old stuff like the last one?

I have a feeling that if they do they will have to do it in a manner where the band records in one area and Dave records in another. I doubt they could last a full recording schedule after all of these years, with all the egos involved.

Yes.

I recently saw them and they owned it. The current edition of Van Halen is shot. Can't play like they used to, and Roth can't sing close to what he used to. Sad to say that Father Time has robbed them of the ability they once had.

Of course the current addition but you said "Today, Panther does Van Halen better then Van Halen." which I took to mean, better then Van Halen ever was. That, I don't agree with.

No, that's why I included the word "today".

VH putting out an album of brand spanking new material :lmao:

EVH has said in numerous interviews that he has a "vault" of unrecorded riffs, music etc but its funny the majority of their last album was rehashes/reworking of riffs from the 70s. EVH is incredibly lazy.

No, that's why I included the word "today".

I understand, but today could go either way. Today could mean Panther does better covers ever or Panther does better covers the Van Halen is capable of now. I just didn't understand. Today they do do Van Halen better then Van Halen but that point was not clear to me in your post, even with the word today.
