This is odd.

I think it's hard to draw a hard conclusion either way. But regardless, at face value it gives merit to both Romo coming in if Dak struggles, and if gives merit to simply helping the defense out during practice if they want Romo to make the checks that Rodgers would for the defense to fully prepare. My question regarding that would be, is why wouldn't Romo do that on the scout team.

It's odd. I dont know what will come of it. But it's odd.
I agree with you. But Dak's game is a lot like Rodgers as far as moving in the pocket and scrambling for yards. I totally agree Romo could help the defense by calling out what they're doing so the defense can hide it or adjust

In today's NFL, its the smart thing to do...get him prepared as possible. I would have like for him to have played more against philly.

I don't recall him referring to himself as the backup, maybe you missed it? He said Dak deserves to be the starter. Which is true...until he doesn't.
Well I dont see Tony as a bkup, he is a 2nd starting QB, they can use if needed.
It is a unusual situation, to have two starting caliber QB's on one team, when most only have one, and some dont even have one.

I think it is great, because if Dak was to get hurt, without tony it would be sanchez stepping in, which means game is probably
going to be lost. With tony chances are you win the game, and he could finish a season.

If Dak was # 2 to Tony, that would also be a good situation , tony goes down Dak steps in and keeps the team rolling along.

This is why I think, they should keep tony one more year, and even let him be the starter, then if he gets hurt, Dak takes over,
but give tony one more season with this team, and see what he does.
They have to pay him I think 16 mil, or that is cap hit regardless , so why not use him one more year.

I AM Dak fan, been on Dak train since august, but I would like to see tony get a shot at starter for 2017.
It could be a one year deal, then they go to dak.
And I imagine they could play dak enough to keep him in the groove.

I know they wont do that, but I think it would be interesting to see what tony could do as starter in 2017, fully healthy and
more competitve, and with one last chance.

He's the starter-elect, just like a President-elect. He is simply waiting to take his rightful position.

No, he's the starter. There's no elect. He already earned and assumed the position.

If Dak struggles and Garrett puts Romo in as the starter, he was elected to the position. FWIW, I think the Cowboys are going to do very well against the Packers (Dak included) -- I anticipate a 10 to 14 point victory. The next round is where things start to get dicey.

I don't think that part is really practiced a ton. You're not allowed to hit the QB, as you know. And anyway--within the pocket--Romo does move around a lot like Rodgers. Dak certainly runs better now, but again, that's not something Rodgers does by design a whole lot.

Tony is the backup who gets limited snaps in a meaningless regular season game so as not to risk injury and gets 1st team reps before a huge playoff game. OK.

He's had superior play every single day in practice. That's not the issue.
The issue is that Dak is playing his tail off on game day, the team is 13-3 and he has led that charge.
Plus, they felt he was more reliable physically. Just very tough to pull the plug on all of that.

Romo would only take over if disaster strikes.

Bottom line is that Dallas is in very good shape at QB entering the playoffs.

The issue is Honor, Loyalty, Sacrifice.

Romo has had it for his team since Dak was in preschool.

I'm sure it's very Twightlight Zone-like for Romo this year.

He's been a pro about it all the way though.

I know you're a Skins fan, but as a Cowboy's fan and huge Romo backer, I still am pulling completely for Dak to help us get this 6th Lombardi.
Would I have rather it had been Romo? Absolutely. Dak's time would've come soon enough.
But it just came sooner than expected.:flagwave:

So you just gloss over the part where it's been reported that Romo has done this since he was cleared to play 8-weeks ago! OK!

The old story was that Prescott got the same number of reps as before Tony came back, and they got Romo snaps that were extra.

Would that they had done that for Brad Johnson.

Babe Laufenberg said on the radio that scout teams reps were not useful for quarter backs.

If he's running scout, that's great, but if he's taking Dak’s reps with the 1st team offense, that is not so great.
It could piss off Dak, internally, and it could cause the team to question the commitment to Dak.
Only time I take reps from a starter, if healthy, is to light a fire under his *** or because I'm thinking of making a change. I don't think Dak needs a fire lit.

I agree. Our football acumen is much greater than all the so called 'experts' expecting the Packers to win.

I would say Romo is a lot more like Rodgers with how he moves in the pocket. Once out of the pocket, however, Dak is a closer resemblance. Romo has the quick shifty moves, Dak can run for more yards when he gets going though.

This doesn't quite sound like the same story that has been reported previously. Those reports said there were some extra snaps at the end. Not a lot, but some. This sounds like 30-50% of the snaps. That's a lot more than a few "bonus" snaps, if true.

Also, to help the defense, Romo would be doing his scout team snaps, not taking #1 snaps.
