Steal?

I'd say the Steelers talked to several teams. None of them were offerering a better pick (perhaps another AFCE team did).

Shows Holmes' value. Most teams don't put a premium on WRs, to say the least, especially ones with a fondness for weed.

Of all the ignorance I've seen in this forum, this one ranks right at the top.

Not only is this comment ignorant, its pathetic.

waiting for the first comment about roy and what we paid compared to the market set this off season.

Roy wasnt about to be suspended for being a lifetime piece of trash.

Folks, there is a reason this guy was traded for a 5th rd pick.

don't know if I am the first to comment....and let me preface this by saying I am a Jerry fan. But I have long wondered who decided Roy was worth a 1st, 3rd and 6th. Especially when you see what Randy Moss, Braylon Edwards, Anquan Boldin and now Santonio Holmes was moved for. Couple that with the Joey Galloway debacle.....I just would LOVE to know who did this. Actually, as fans of the Cowboys, we should ALL hope this was PURELY a Jerry Jones move. PURLEY his love affair with Williams since high school. We should hope our coaches and scouts did not feel Roy was pretty much worth from a draft persective more than all of these other WRs COMBINED. And let me also add I have not been a Roy Williams basher. Just curious as to what intel was Jerry given to jusify the picks AND money.

I'd like to now how did trading those picks set the Cowboys' back ? Especially since they had two 3rd round picks in that same draft.

can't wait to hear this excuse.
Giving up a 1st and a 3rd for a mediocre player doesn't set you back? Really?

Jets RB Washington part of Santonio Holmes trade?

By Mark J. Miller

The New York Jets have apparently acquired wide receiver Santonio Holmes(notes) from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, but ProFootballTalk is reporting that 27-year-old Jets running back Leon Washington(notes) was also part of the deal, giving the Steelers more options on kick returns. That is, if Washington can return in good health from compound leg fractures. Meanwhile, the Steelers rid themselves of 2009 Super Bowl MVP Holmes, who is wrapped in the middle of a legal kerfuffle with a woman who claims he threw a glass at her in an Orlando nightclub that cut her above the eye.
The Steelers are apparently happy to make that the Jets' PR problem.

Williams -1st...........3rd..............6th rounder swap
Holmes - 5th.......Washington......off ffield issues

Trades starting to even out.....

I don't care for Holmes but I wouldn't have minded getting Washington. He's a great kick returner.

Thats exactly right.

Even if he doesn't work out. It's a 5th rounder. Who cares. That hardly sets you back.

Now a first and 3rd.....lol

Holmes is definitely going to be suspended 4 games to start the season.

I don't think a first and third was that bad in last year's draft...there wasn't anyone that we absolutely had to have.

That being said, I still like draft picks. We could have tried to turn a 1st and 3rd into someone legitimate like Larry Fitzgerald.

First this, (again):

Profootballtalk.com passes along "flying" rumors that unsigned restricted free agent Leon Washington is part of the trade that sent Santonio Holmes to the Jets on Sunday night.
Profootballtalk's Mike Florio has been unable to debunk the rumors yet, but points out that Washington would have to sign his one-year tender to be involved in any trade. If Washington is included, the deal would be much more sensible from the Steelers' standpoint. Washington, if able to recover from his compound leg fracture, would be a big upgrade on third downs and returns from incumbent Steelers No. 2 back Mewelde Moore.

Restricted free agent Leon Washington is not part of the Santonio Holmes trade, according to SI's Peter King.
It's still possible that Washington could be dealt after he signs his one-year tender, but King is one of the most respected reporters in the business and he seems very certain that Leon is not part of the deal. King also updates that the pick acquired by the Steelers was the 151st overall pick, not the 155th. As long as Washington doesn't end up in Pittsburgh, this deal is a robbery for the Jets.

Wow. I can't get over this type of thinking.

All-pro players could've been picked with those selections. No certainty that they would have, but that's 2 chances flushed down the toilet.

There's no one we absolutely have to have in this draft either. Might as well hand these off to another team as well.

If you don't get what 2 high draft picks can mean to an organization, then there's little I can do to explain it to you.

I don't think not drafting in the first round set as back in terms of destroying the franchise, but here's a list of players that filled a need and would have been available to us that we'd be fools to say wouldn't look pretty good right now:

Percy Harvin
Michael Oher
Clay Matthews

What am i missing here? A 5th Rounder for a Super Bowl MVP?

It’s a low risk / high reward gamble for the Jets.
