...debatable on whether Holmes lives up to any value, 5th or not. The season hasn't started yet.
What do we know for sure.
The Steelers organization including the Rooneys must be tired of him. This has the boss' stamp of approval on it all the way.
There is no contract in place for Holmes beyond this year. So it cost the Jets a 5th for this year and there's no guarantee that Holmes won't go out and test the market in 2011. He's only guaranteed to be a Jet for 2010.
Is this worthwhile guessing???
The Commish has not brought anything forward, but it can't be good for Holmes knowing that the Steelers bailed.
Is Holmes (1) more infraction after this one from being kicked out the league for a year?
Is Holmes the type of personality that doesn't "get it" and this is tribal knowledge for the Steelers and will soon be tribal knowledge for the Jets?
Is Holmes going to the Big Apple with big dreams that are not conducive to him staying out of trouble?
It's the guess work that will be solved at the end of the 2012 season that will reveal if this is going to be a deal worthwhile to the Jets. Even for one season.

If Holmes wasn't in trouble, again, there is no way he gets moved for a 5th. If he stayed out of trouble in the league, like Williams has, you don't get to steal him for a 5th.
Everything yelling about how Jerry screwed up with Roy and pointing to this as evidence (When there are real reasons that a person can get made over that deal for) is blindly, and conviently, forgetting the fact that the only reason it's possible is cause Holmes is an idiot who can't stay out of trouble.
