Saquon Barkley contemplating sitting out games

If I'm Barkley I make my stand or I play. In other words, sign the tag and play, or sit out the year. He's got plenty of money. He can do either. Because lets face it, the Giants aren't doing crap without him. Make your stand, or fall in line.
At this point, he's probably not nearly as good as people were expecting.

The whole thing about the new NFL. By the time the great players age, the new class of young bucks is coming in and playing at their level or above. This isn't just with running backs, it's with all positions, aside from maybe quarterback.

The population has grown, so there is more talent, per capita, and these veterans are overvaluing their worth. Barkley may be good, but he is no longer great. Same for players like Zack Martin, Zeke Elliott.

I think the Cowboys anticipated this move by Martin, so they stocked up on OL in the draft, FA, and UDFA.

Lol, he turned down 26 million for 2 years. Either take the 10 million or really screw yourself. He isn't going to see the 26 again. Take the 10 and retire is the way to go since they already blew the 26 deal.
That's a fair deal. He's not longer the best guard in the league. Let's be real. Not at this point in his career.

The Giants are known for playing hardball. Id be very careful if I am Saquan. He might find himself getting traded to a bad team. Not saying I agree either way, but this is true.
SB is in the spotlight, he can risk it, but he might find his value dropping if he sits out, not much leverage for SB if the Giants actually want to entertain that decision.

I would take an unhappy SB for say a player trade... I would give up Turpin and a 5th.
They can't trade a guy who isn't under contract - he didn't sign the tag.

Never mind Turpin and a 5th wouldn't interest the Giants, he'd want paid. I'm sure that would go over well with Pollard, who signed his tag and went about his business.

Saquon either plays for the Giants this season or he sits out. Those are his options at this point. The tag deadline passed.

I don't think Jones is all that much improved. I think he's always been what he is now, the situation around him stabilized.
I saw a lot of improvement in him and that’s the reason he got a huge contract extension. He had career highs in passing yards and completion percentage, and a career low in INT’s.

It actually might.
Consider his worth. And the potential worth of Turpin for them and the future pick, versus what we likely know Saquan has left. Even Stephen, with Cooks, Zeke, everbody else on the market.

I agree with you for the most part. But the Giants need Barkley. They need him to be good. I think he's the one case that needed to be paid a little more. Nothing like Zeke's contract of course. But at his best, he's not easily replaced.

He may feel that way but I doubt it comes to that. After seeing what that did to Le’Veon Bell’s career, it wouldn’t be a wise move. NFL can stand for ‘Not For Long’. He’s a big name RB now…but a lot can change in a year. And his next deal wouldn’t make up for his lost money this season. Pretty simple math actually
Keep in mind that Barkley made almost 40 million dollars in 5 years. If he was smart, he's set for life. He doesn't need to kiss anyone's ***.

If I were him, I might sit out the season. They won't make the playoffs without him.

Sounds like an entitled crybaby. Yes they work hard to get there and careers can end drastically short but let's be real.

Dude has generational wealth already. His kids and grandkids set for life. The deal the giants offered him was generous to begin with in today's RB market.

Would love to see contracts played out before players a year or two start b**ching and moaning about money. You sign the contract you play it.

In August 2020 the Jaguars traded Yannick Ngakoue to the Vikings. The Jags tried to franchise tag him, but he never signed the tender. They were able to work out a trade even after the deadline. The only limitation was he could not sign a long term deal with the Vikings. He had to agree to a one year deal. It was confusing because it seemingly went against all the rules previousily mentioned about the franchise tag. Unless they have modified the rules since that occurred, Barkley can go that route although it doesn't sound like it would be a great option for him.

Barkley really didn't do anything wrong. He was made an offer and refused it. He's not under contract until he signs that tag.

Good luck with that. The train is rolling down the track and Barkley doesn't seem to understand the current RB market.

Next year there will be a ton of good FA RB's. He must see that and think he better grab his money while he can.

He has a little more leverage than most at this point. They just stupidly signed Jones long term and he and that team are NOTHING without Barkley. Without Barkley, Jones will go back to looking like a turd in a punch bowl.
