In normal years I would agree. But because Houston has no QB and they're out of the playoffs, I don't think they are going to give it someone who's not even playing this weekend or next.

I agree. How do you make a case for MVP when the player's value didn't include a playoff appearance? It's tough to build a case that that's the most valuable player in the league, no matter how well he played.

I hear you, but the award has nothing to do with the playoffs. If it does, then that should be explicitly stated and it would make things much easier.

Right now, at least to me, it's an award for the leagues best player. Watt controlled what he could control, and a bit more, but he can still be the leagues best player on a team with no QB.
Agreed. I don't understand the idea that the MVP should be determined by the quality of the other guys on the team, rather than the quality of the player himself. I don't want any part of an award that, say, goes to Tony Romo only because Matt Flynn is better than Brandon Weeden (as some have argued).

Houston did at least have a winning record, that might go a long ways for Watt. They might as well call it the OMVP award. If a defensive player like Watt can't win it, a defensive player might not ever win it again.

Watt should win it. Romo and Rodgers are having great years, but not unprecedented years for a QB. Watt is redefining his position and that's what it takes to win it as a non-qb/rb.

The MVP is just so heavily slanted towards QB and to a lesser extent, RB. I mean hell, Odelll Beckham Jr. might be more valuable to his team's success (what little they had) than Rodgers or Romo. They might have won one game the whole year without him.

Watt isn't even having a better year this year than he did two years ago. Yet alone "redefining his position."

I hate to break it to you, Aaron Rodgers had an excellent year, and he clearly without a doubt, should be league MVP.

Look at these stats...

2nd overall in completion percentage
2nd overall in yards per attempt.
2nd overall in quarterback rating.

Clearly, he should be #1, the facts speak for themselves!

Unless I'm missing something.

Ok thanks.

Rogers: 4381 passing yards, 38 TDs, 5 INTS, 269 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDS.
Romo: 3705 passing yards, 34 TDs, 9 INTS, 61 rushing yards, 0 rushing TDS.

It is what it is.

People are going to focus on Rodgers' insane TD - Int ratio, perhaps rightfully so.

Well that was a convincing argument.

Not trying to convince you, just stating a fact. You are free to believe as you wish, but Watt is having his best year even if the ESPN player profile page you looked at may suggest otherwise.

...and why shouldn't/wouldn't they? They are both MVP material but the numbers are the numbers.

I say give them both the MVP! :)

Hell while we're at it let's also hand JJ Watt one as well, we can have the first tri MVP.

That's why I said "perhaps rightfully so." One could also make an argument for Romo's higher overall QB rating, especially in the latter part of the season.

Agreed. They are both crucial in terms of their team's success. I could care less who wins the MVP as long as we win the Super Bowl. ;)

Stats don't matter, he's #1 in the eyes of the media. They have a love fest with him, so yeah, he wIll get the MVP.
And Romo means as much to the Cowboys as Rodgers does to the Packers.

Well stated. This unfortunately is a popularity contest ..
