Schefter: Adrian Peterson, Cowboys and Giants interested

Adrian Peterson could end up playing for the New York Giants after all.

Although many have dismissed the idea of Peterson joining the Giants, despite his public plea and cryptic tweet expressing interest, ESPN's Adam Schefter sees a real connection here. According to Schefter, the feeling is mutual between all of the teams Peterson expressed interest in.

There's also one more team in the mix that Peterson didn't originally mention.

“It makes sense for Adrian to kind of stir the pot on that, which he did,” Schefter said during an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic, via Giants Wire. “He has a tremendous amount of leverage in Minnesota. The teams he brought up were the Giants, the Buccaneers and the Texans. I’ve also had people say to watch out for the Cowboys.”

Peterson may not just be stirring the pot. Schefter believes that there is legitimate interest from both the Giants and Cowboys in signing the veteran running back.

“Some people have said that Peterson to the Cowboys doesn’t make any sense, but actually, it does,” Schefter said. “First of all, you’ve got the investigation of Ezekiel Elliott going on and you don’t know if the NFL is going to discipline him for any amount of time. Even if Elliott isn’t facing any kind of discipline they could bring in Adrian Peterson to take away 100 carries from Ezekiel Elliott and preserve him over time. Wouldn’t that be a wise move? Plus, how many Adrian Peterson jerseys would Jerry Jones sell with Peterson being from Texas?”

If the Giants and Cowboys do end up battling it out for Peterson, it could be the one decision that ends up swinging the NFC East.

The Giants are certainly in the market for a running back, after releasing veteran starter Rashad Jennings earlier this month, but Peterson does seem like an odd fit.

At least down to the level Alfred Morris got. Don't see that.
He might, considering the marketing opportunities available for him in Texas as a Cowboys being from Texas. lets not forget he said he wants to retire a cowboy. Players need for a ring beats out their need for a pay day. IMO

Dallas has ZERO interest in AP...once again all players available to sign or trade, the media lumps Dallas in with them......almost as dumb when two years ago people thought the Vikings were going to trade him....

Depends on the money AP would want. Being he played in 3 games last year he had 1.9 yards per rush.

AP would be an upgrade from Mcfadden, Morris and Dunbar.

Seems the coaches held Zeke out almost every 2nd quarter and having Peterson run wild would be great. Again for me it comes down to money. We need to move on from Mcfadden, Morris and Dunbar so signing AP and drafting a back in the later rounds is the way to go

Schefter pimping for Peterson and his agent, it's as clear as day.

This is coming from a guy who campaigned as loudly and as proudly as I could for Peterson two years ago.

Peterson is shot. I hope he does end up with the Giants. Their offensive line sucks. They can't run the ball. And Peterson is a shell of his former self. As a Cowboys fan, I'd love it if the two sides teamed up. I hope they sign him and pay him a boatload of money to do it.

It only makes things better for the Cowboys.

Giants need to upgrade their oline before they even entertain the idea of bringing in AP.

IMO Peterson really really hopes Dallas has interest which I highly doubt. It has the potential to be a huge distraction.

We were both on that wagon, and hard. However I absolutely DO NOT want to face Peterson twice a year by any means. He seems to destroy us no matter who is lining up in front of him blocking when he plays us. That scares me. The Giants OL also started gelling at the end of the year, and Jennings is horrible. Perkins looked decent at times, so who knows. One thing for sure, i dont want to face AD twice a year.
