Adrian Peterson could end up playing for the New York Giants after all.
Although many have dismissed the idea of Peterson joining the Giants, despite his public plea and cryptic tweet expressing interest, ESPN's Adam Schefter sees a real connection here. According to Schefter, the feeling is mutual between all of the teams Peterson expressed interest in.
There's also one more team in the mix that Peterson didn't originally mention.
“It makes sense for Adrian to kind of stir the pot on that, which he did,” Schefter said during an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic, via Giants Wire. “He has a tremendous amount of leverage in Minnesota. The teams he brought up were the Giants, the Buccaneers and the Texans. I’ve also had people say to watch out for the Cowboys.”
Peterson may not just be stirring the pot. Schefter believes that there is legitimate interest from both the Giants and Cowboys in signing the veteran running back.
“Some people have said that Peterson to the Cowboys doesn’t make any sense, but actually, it does,” Schefter said. “First of all, you’ve got the investigation of Ezekiel Elliott going on and you don’t know if the NFL is going to discipline him for any amount of time. Even if Elliott isn’t facing any kind of discipline they could bring in Adrian Peterson to take away 100 carries from Ezekiel Elliott and preserve him over time. Wouldn’t that be a wise move? Plus, how many Adrian Peterson jerseys would Jerry Jones sell with Peterson being from Texas?”
If the Giants and Cowboys do end up battling it out for Peterson, it could be the one decision that ends up swinging the NFC East.
The Giants are certainly in the market for a running back, after releasing veteran starter Rashad Jennings earlier this month, but Peterson does seem like an odd fit.
