Schefter: Adrian Peterson, Cowboys and Giants interested

Take a look at what the other running backs, McKinnon and Asiata did under those same circumstances. Both guys - neither of whom is special, clearly outperformed Peterson. That's not saying the offense was good, it wasn't, but it shows how bad Peterson truly was too.
I'm not saying AP is anything resembling what he used to be. I think comparing him to McKinnon and Asiata isn't fair. When Peterson is on the field, the defense is keying on him. When the other two guys are on the field, the D is more worried about Rudolph, Diggs and Thielen.

I think it's much more "fair" than any other set of conditions to be considered. Rudolph, Diggs, and Thielen are out there when Peterson was too. And based on how poorly he and the running game performed, nobody was "keying" on him. They didn't have to. The production didn't simply decline, it fell off of a cliff.

I think it's more fair to compare it to his past performance, since defenses have always keyed on him. I promise D-coordinators were game-planning more for Peterson than any other player on that offense.

I think that would be the biggest mistake anyone could make. "Past performance" is just that - past.

He's not the player he has been in the past.

I agree with you, his performance indicates he's not the player he has been in the past.

Not even having the best RB in the NFL already on our roster was compelling enough to prevent AP to DAL offseason threads. :)

I am not advocating signing AD to anything more than 2m a year but he is a genetic freak

He is far from done physically and would probably still beat Zeke in a foot race

Another broken down declining player. Yeah, let's bring him in to further water down the best back in football. Great idea.

I'd give him a look. I wouldn't be optimistic but I'd give him a chance to prove me wrong. He looked really bad last year - crappy o-line or not.

The Cowboys aren't serious about acquiring Peterson, they are just trying to drive up the price for the Giants lol...

This makes no sense. Dallas doesnt need a RB. At all.

Adrian Peterson could end up playing for the New York Giants after all.

Although many have dismissed the idea of Peterson joining the Giants, despite his public plea and cryptic tweet expressing interest, ESPN's Adam Schefter sees a real connection here. According to Schefter, the feeling is mutual between all of the teams Peterson expressed interest in.

There's also one more team in the mix that Peterson didn't originally mention.

“It makes sense for Adrian to kind of stir the pot on that, which he did,” Schefter said during an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic, via Giants Wire. “He has a tremendous amount of leverage in Minnesota. The teams he brought up were the Giants, the Buccaneers and the Texans. I’ve also had people say to watch out for the Cowboys.”

Peterson may not just be stirring the pot. Schefter believes that there is legitimate interest from both the Giants and Cowboys in signing the veteran running back.

“Some people have said that Peterson to the Cowboys doesn’t make any sense, but actually, it does,” Schefter said. “First of all, you’ve got the investigation of Ezekiel Elliott going on and you don’t know if the NFL is going to discipline him for any amount of time. Even if Elliott isn’t facing any kind of discipline they could bring in Adrian Peterson to take away 100 carries from Ezekiel Elliott and preserve him over time. Wouldn’t that be a wise move? Plus, how many Adrian Peterson jerseys would Jerry Jones sell with Peterson being from Texas?”

If the Giants and Cowboys do end up battling it out for Peterson, it could be the one decision that ends up swinging the NFC East.

The Giants are certainly in the market for a running back, after releasing veteran starter Rashad Jennings earlier this month, but Peterson does seem like an odd fit.

Would love to see the Giants overpay for a Running Back over the age of 30

You're welcome to dismiss AD as done if you want, but I'm not there yet. If he looks broken in preseason I'll join you.
