I missed the whole speculation sequence. I only caught the tail end.

Lovie Smith has tried getting Archuleta for many years and now he think he finally can. Sounded like it's almost a done deal.

if thats true thats the ultimate disrespect to brown and harris. think they'd have some unhappy players there. and probably not just them.

Brown is coming off an injury of some kind. I think achilles. So they need to shore up the position.

When you consider that Brown is made out of glass and Harris isnt good, this deal makes could make sense.

I don't know much about it but wouldn't that accelerate all his remaining signing bonus against Washington's cap? Do they have that kind of cap room?

Washington is trying to redo his deal and Arch isn't going for it. He might just be released.

Archuleta played for Lovie in St. Louis, so maybe he thinks he can get more out of him than Washington did.

Releasing him would cost them an additional 7.572 million against their 2007 cap.

I could get more out of an empty bag of Doritos than what Washington got out of Archuleta last year.

The mistake that was made was the Redstinks already had a someone who plays his position in Sean Taylor. Arch couldn't get on the field the last half of the season because he wasn't as good as Taylor.

Bears eyeing safety Archuleta

By Adam Schefter
Special to NFL.com

(March 19, 2007) -- Randy Moss is the headliner on the trading block, but he is far from the only player.

Before Moss is dealt -- and it now looks as if it is only a matter of time before it happens -- one of the next players expected to be traded is Washington's safety Adam Archuleta, who will most likely wind up in Chicago.

Archuleta is expected to be traded for a mid-round conditional pick that could improve for Washington depending on how well the safety performs. The trade would help the Commanders recoup a draft pick in an offseason when Washington would like to add as many as possible.

Adam Archuleta could be headed to Chicago where he'll be reunited with coach Lovie Smith.
Before Washington trades Archuleta, it is first trying to restructure the safety's contract so as to soften his salary-cap blow once he is dealt. Chicago is the natural landing spot for him primarily because of head coach Lovie Smith, who has coveted Archuleta ever since he took over as the Bears head coach in January 2004.

Smith was Archuleta's defensive coordinator in St. Louis, and believes he knows just how to deploy the versatile safety. It is the reason that Smith tried trading for Archuleta two seasons ago, then wanted to sign him last offseason before the Commanders swooped in with a monstrous record contract for Archuleta.

Smith believes he can help Archuleta return to being the defensive presence he was in St. Louis rather than the disappointment he was last season in Washington. Smith likely would plan to play Archuleta closer to the line of scrimmage, as a weapon against the run, rather than ask him to be a centerfielder against the pass.

I'm not sure that's possible. He's already the best scout team safety in the NFL!

I'm going to be pissed if they wiggle out of another hugh mistake. They got Lavar to give back money so he could be released and not kill their cap. If Archeleta caves and lets them out of this mess, I'll be pissed. I hope he holds his ground and makes them cut him and take the huge hit. After the way they treated him, I hopes he doesn't give them an inch!!!!!!

Arch wants out pretty bad because he is not happy with the situation in DC. Given the circumstances, not much would surprise me right now.

LOL...yeah right

until Archuleta tries to cover somebody

he's probably the worst cover DB (forget safety or CB) in the NFL

I don't think Lovie Smith is as dumb as anyone tied to the Commanders...

Not at all. As good as Brown is he hasn't played a full season since '03. Archuleta is solid insurance, especially when you're an injury away from having Todd Johnson starting at SS.
