Schefter: Archuleta traded to the Bears

It would be funny if he went somewhere like Chicago and had a big gme against them when they play each other this year. He wasn't worth anywhere near the money they gave him. But he has a pretty wife.

With all the teams out there raping the Skins (Denver, New York A, Atlanta), it's touching to see there is at least one willing to bail them out.

Pure comedy.

The guy only visited washington to drive the price up on washington. He was supposed to be a bear last year, but the skins threw so much money at him he had to accept.

Its hillarious to me that now the skins are asking him to give some money back, he shouldnt give 1 penny back, the skins front office are all screw ups and why these guys bail them out is beyond me.

Its hillarious to me the bears now have to give up a draft pick to get the guy.

How the skins handle this cap hit and have room will be entertaining, they will probably have 10 million in space all of a sudden.

Pure comedy.

Why would the Bears be stupid enough to follow up the Commanders' collossal blunder by taking Archuleta and his ridiculous contract off their hands?

Wait for the Commanders to cut him and then sign him to the terms you're willing to pay.

I dont know ...... their biggest fan is no longer running the league ...... so things might get harder from here on out.

;)

According to NFL Network, this is now official for a conditional sixth rounder.

Wow - I can't understand how they would have the cap room to cut him OR trade him.

From the way the story's being reported, they managed to trade him with minimal, if any, cap hit.

He apparantly deferred his $5 mill roster bonus, and now the Bears are picking it up.

I'd love it if a cap guru like Adam could explain this????

No way the Stinks should be able to get off scot-free on a debacle like this!

It's aggravating that they keep getting away with it because the CBA was setup this way to KEEP TEAMS FROM DOING BUSINESS THE WAY THAT THEY DO BUSINESS.

& How many pro bowls?

:laugh1:

So NOW you use the pro bowl as an accurate indicator of success? The same Pro bowl that left Newman out this year and in years past? The same pro bowl that got Sean Taylor in this year? Great example.

I was just comparing safeties. We can put Newman's career up to Rodgers' though, if you like.

Anyway - my point was I think that the Skins could do a lot better than Landry.

Laron Landry in burgandy now :pray2:
Move Taylor to SS and that wouldn't be that bad of a pickup. You could probably trade down a few spots and still pick Landry up, too.

while we do have a bigger need for a pass rusher up front, we have a bigger whole at SS IMO. At least up front, we have players who have started for us before, and have been apart of this team wheh then defense was actually decent.

This team isn't just one player away from being a contender. With that said, I think Landry is the only great defensive prospect on the board. While players like Adams, anderson branch ect. may pan out, I could see all of them turning into busts. With so many wholes, why not just take a player who has all the tools. Last thing we need at this point is a top 10 bust.

ARCHULETA TO BEARS

A league source tells us that the Washington Commanders have traded safety Adam Archuleta to the Chicago Bears for a sixth-round pick in the 2007 draft.

Per the source, Archuleta will sign a three-year deal with Chicago. The contract is worth $8.1 million, and it pays $5 million in guaranteed money.

That's the same $5 million that Archuleta was owed by the Commanders in the form of a fully-guaranteed option bonus.

The move reunites Archuleta with former Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith. Word is that Smith has been hoping to get Archuleta to Chicago ever since Smith got the job there as head coach.

Archuleta will play strong safety in the Bears' Tampa 2 defense.

The deal initially was reported by John Clayton of ESPN.com and Adam Schefter of NFL Network. (We don't want to create the false impression that we broke this one.)

It's still funny, though... The Skins make him the highest paid safety and their fans tell us how great he is, even better than Roy, and a year later they have to put their tail between their legs and give him away for a sixth.

And they still had to eat that bonus. :laugh1:
