I've mentioned this before, but besides NFC rivals I think Houston is the AFC team Jerry least wants Romo to go to.
That is a hunch based on his marketing savvy. There is no benefit at all to the Cowboys if Houston somehow wins (or gets to) a Super Bowl before Dallas gets to their next one.

It think it's a better fit for Tony but not for Jerry. Who knows, maybe an offer would change his mind.

I'm inclined to agree with you DFWJC. Houston having success by itself likely bothers Jerry. Houston having success (winning or getting to a Super Bowl) WITH Romo would kill Jerry. Not only from a marketing standpoint but because it would cause Jerry to play the "what if" game internally and probably publicly. Then again, any success Romo has outside of Dallas (getting to or winning a Super Bowl) without the Cowboys actually reaching or winning a Super Bowl will be viewed as a loss for Jerry by Jerry I suspect.

We'll see how it all plays out soon enough I guess.

Man, I wish Romo well and all...always have.
But that'd suck for Dak (who is a great guy in his own right) if he had to listen to Jerry opine about days past and regrets for trading Tony.
That could get old reeeal fast.

So does going 1 and done, what does anyone besides jerry Jones have to say about this?? Half the team should be ashamed of even picking up a check

It would be epic to see Dallas playing in the SB vs a team QB's by Romo.
Most watched SB in history.
Denver has a crap oline though. If Romo goes there he's gonna get pounded--especially in that division. If he goes to Houston though...look out.
I'm a Cowboys fan 1st though.

Why would a team trade when everyone knows he will have to be released at some point? This decision was made the minute that Tony was made the back up. For everything that Dak did and all the great things that were accomplished last year, but by not giving Tony his job back, killed any value that he had. Just think, if Tony played out the rest of the year, looked like the Tony of old, like he did in his one series, and didn't get injured again.. his trade value would be off the charts. But the FO decided to stay with the "hot" hand, and by doing so, killed any trade value that Tony would have. At that moment, every team knew that Tony would not be on the Cowboys. You don't pay for something when you know you can get it for free. This really doesn't have anything to do with Jerry and how he feels about Tony or releasing him to do what's right by Tony. Teams aren't stupid and are not going to offer any picks when he will be released anyway.
A team will trade because there is more than one team that needs him.

Why is this a shock? Why would someone give us ANYTHING of significance...when WE were AFRAID to play him...because WE were afraid he would get hurt. The mindset of whomever makes these decisions is just baffling. Romo was the BACKUP QB!!!!!!!!!!!! WE played him 1 series. If WE thought he would get hurt...what message does that send to perspective suitors?

Most logical post in this thread.................Garrett totally screwed the pooch with that "forfeit" game against Philly. We only let Romo play one single series and then put in the butt fumbler to complete the forfeit.

If the Cowboys, with the best o-line in the league, was scared to play Romo more than one series for fear of him getting injured, why the hell would another team give up picks for him? The team totally killed any trade value Romo might have had with that bush league move. If Romo would have played the entire game or at least a half, there would be a much bigger trade market today.

So its not just Jerry here, Garrett has his finger prints all over this mess as well.............we are getting nothing for Romo guys, just accept it.

They would be a good fit but Denver would be a good fit as well but he's never been a great cold weather QB. As for Houston getting Watt back, with two back surgeries his best days could be behind him. The most important thing for Romo to have success is his OL and offensive weapons. He can't be put in a position where he has to be the savior or carry the team.
Cold weather, where did he go to college? He was the player of the year there.

Not surprising, no team wants to deal with that $24 million contract.

No team would have to because there isn't a "24 million contract" they have to deal with. The existing contract is great for a team that acquires Romo. There is no upfront money, no guarantees and he only makes $14 million in 2017 and 19.5 million in 2018

lol, it amazes me how something so easy to look up is so widely misunderstood, even by the press who have no excuse in not knowing better (imo)

I agree, Romo should have come in and blown them out.

I disagree with the Garrett thing. I think there is a conscious effort to minimize Jerry Jones in this organization, even now, when it is clear he is not nearly in the shadows as people want to pretend he is.

He was on record talking about the minimal use of Romo and that was to preserve him, whether to have him available as a backup or and he was being tricky, for trade. He was very much in command with that decision.

I agree to some level on the Philly game and only one series for Tony.

Then again, we did have three QBs and were holding out Dak for risk of injury for the playoffs, so they just did the same for Romo. They wanted to be fully loaded for the playoffs and Philly was a "meaningless game". But again, that seemed overly cautious.

The whole concept of saving up has proven to be completely asinine in retrospect.

Hopefully Garrett learned a hard lesson.
