Schefter expecting Romo release, not trade

Loyalty will always trump a sound business decision for the Cowboys with Jerry.

Jones has probably convinced himself that say a 3rd round pick for Romo isn't not enough justification to prevent Romo from being able to control his own destiny,.

they're cutting their whole core, they are in FULL rebuild mode, tearing it down to the base, they don't want a 37 year old quarterback and Romo wouldn't want to go there either and Jerry wouldn't want to send him there....if Jerry was to trade Romo, which I highly doubt is happening, I'd call the Rams if a trade a was even possible....
I like that idea, what would you want from them? I feel Aaron Donald would be asking too much

No matter how dumb you think Jerry is, I'm sure he wants something instead of nothing. The question is if anyone will make him an offer in the first place.

The best scenario for a team that wants Romo is that he's cut and they sign him for nothing but the cost of the contract. But that means some other team could make him a better off and get him instead. The Cowboys hope someone will blink and make a trade to make sure they get dibs on Romo, but the Cowboys can't MAKE someone give them a trade offer they like.

Who has interest? I'm not sure anybody does. At least trade interest. I'm sure a number of teams would kick the tires if he were a FA.

Jerry will release him and talk about loyalty or whatever, but the true reason will be we didn't get any offers for him.

We need to remember that Jerry isn't only Jerry anymore. If it was, we would have Johnny Football to deal with instead of Prescott. Saint Stephen is hopefully guarding the release button before Jerry pushes it to see if they can get any value out of Romo before he leaves.
Stephen Jones has already stated very clearly he is not handling this. His father is.

So, sorry, he won't ride over the hill with the cavalry to save the day.

I find it hard to believe one team wouldn't throw a late round pick at us just to guarantee that they get him. If Romo hits the open market, there is no guarantee that say Houston can definitely get him if say Denver swoops in or say the 49ers offer a ridiculous contract for him.

It is a competition between only a couple of teams, I am sure Romo and his camp have already told teams like Chicago, San Francisco and the Jets that they can fight over Mike Glennon or something because he won't play for them.

So it is between the Texans and Broncos. Texans have to deal with their cap commitment to Osweiler before taking on Romo.

Exactly right. If you're Houston - with an obvious gaping hole at quarterback - why would you not send the Cowboys a draft pick?

If you get cheap and roll the dice, you run the risk of Romo signing with Denver and being left out in the cold with nothing but the Jay Cutlers of the world, and not much better off than where you are now. Wasting another season of possible championship contention because you screwed up (again!) at the quarterback position.

For as much as Denver might think he's their missing piece, I actually think that Houston is in better position to compete for a championship, if they had the quarterback.

I'm pretty sure Houston said they weren't interested. It could have been a smokescreen, but it also could be the truth.

Denver just spent a first round pick on a QB. I don't expect them to be spending more draft resources on the position.

If SF wants him, they can probably afford to outbid whoever else is interested.

Signing Hardy was the problem, that's the year Dallas should have dumped a lot of Romo's money in but instead Jerry thought the team was close to a Superbowl contender.....don't know what glass he was looking through then but I'm guesing rose colored, the defense was a mirage, as it was last year that the offense helped cover up for....

Realistically most of us thought the Hardy signing was going to be huge and we were coming of 12-4. Jerry was looking through the same glasses as everyone else. Its hard for me to be critical of the thought process there.

Texans can handle Romo's contract just fine right now. It's long term where they have issues, in trying to pay guys like Hopkins and Clowney the huge money they'll be looking for. But they can and will get out of the Osweiler deal in 2018 for big savings.

LOL, then what's the point?

Easy cap space at the start of free agency and if you decide to make a deal, you can analyze where you are at and have a little time decide the best way to free up the space to release Romo.

To not watch the guy sign with Denver and be stuck with another wasted year of Brock Osweiler flushing away your chance for a championship.

Nobody traded for Peyton Manning and he took a little tour. Same for Romo.

A trade means the albatross contract for Romo comes into play for the team acquiring him.

That is one big reason why you see the reports that the Broncos are holding out for the release. So is anyone else interested.

Ask yourself if you believe that.

How'd that guy look? Do they want to try to win again now, or look a few years down the road? I think that's what it comes down to.

If SF wants him, they can probably afford to outbid whoever else is interested.

They certainly could.

If I'm asking myself, I'm not trading anything for a guy who hasn't proven able to stay healthy the past two seasons.
