Schoon another draft bust

So ragging on the DT Mazi has almost become a piñata at a birthday party on this board. At the time you could argue DT was needed . With Schultz and Ferguson here how do you argue taking a TE round 2 for Schoon was sound value ? I thought TE that yr round 2 was bizarre .

In my mind both Fant and or Fairweather should be brought up from the PS and to be honest what’s Spann Fords value ? This is a year that may turn into cleaning out roster time to see who makes you better today and tomorrow.
The Schooner pick screamed bust from the start. The pick never made any sense. And even worse, forced us to go OL in the 1st in following drafts. That's what happens when you take players in the first 3 rounds that are a bust waiting to happen.

Will McClay special, at the behest of McCarthy. Guess thats why GB kept MM out of the draft room.

The actual screw up here was drafting Tyler Booker (not that he’s not going to be a really good player) and not selecting Tyler Warren. That move was a domino effect with now extending Fergs. Fergs isn’t bad either but not dynamic like Warren. This team needs a dynamic TE IMO.

That was a MM pick? I've never heard that.
Me neither. MM liked Ferg, with the Wisconsin/Alvarez connection and all.

I always thought it was suspicious we got video of the Mazi and the Overshown picks, but nothing on Schoon. Makes me wonder if it was contentious and/or it was a Jerry special.

yes Schoon was a MM pick. So was Ferguson. He was trying to assemble an old-school power offense but it never materialized.

My expectation of this offense, WR1, WR 2, TE1, and RB 1 get almost every target . The other eight get one target each, maybe.

I am curious how New England changed that with their 2 TE emphasis.

This is exactly what happened Reality.

They wanted one of the elite TE’s that draft. They wanted Sam LaPorta who has been great in Detroit.

He got taken. So they settled for Mazi in the first and then REACHED on Schoonmaker in the second to force a TE Pick.

Poor drafting.
Actually they drafted Mazi over Laporta. A tight end is not really that highly valued. As good as Laporta is he like the 5th weapon on a loaded Lions team. In reality a defensive tackle has more value than a tight end. Remember the Atlanta Falcons……..

The worst part about this for me was that Achane was still on the board. I was hoping the Cowboys would draft him.

I don’t think Schultz was here. I think it was Henderson and Ferg and I was fine with them. I trusted them on the need for a tight end but I for sure didn’t get it and still don’t.

Mazi was taken before La Porta. People suspected they want Mayer or Kincaid because they were considered first rounders but they passed up both for Mazi. I believe in the 2nd round they wanted La Porta. They had him rated the highest. Which still I don’t take tight end with Ferg but I assumed they didn’t like Ferg for them to do it.

You’re right. They wanted LaPorta in the second. And when he was gone they forced the TE pick anyway on Schoonmaker

I’m still trying to understand where this myth that the Cowboys draft well originated?
I mean it’s not a myth. It’s in comparison to everyone else in the league. I think mostly in the first round. They have more All Pros and Pro Bowlers then anyone in a certain span.
