You don't have to go much further back to find our gem of a 2nd Rd pick in '16. With a clear-eye view, you will see the same end-game

He was already 25 years old when his rookie season started. That was a failure in itself. You can have a little patience when you draft a 21 year old.

Schoonmaker is what he is. He's terrible.

Remember when he passed on Shawn Rogers back in 2001 because he looked at the x-rays of his ankle "looked pretty bad" yet he drafts someone with a completely shredded knee in the same

Our last four 2nd round picks:

Marshawn Kneeland - injured
Luke Schoonmaker - dog house
Sam Williams - injured/suspended
Kelvin Joseph - out of the league

All of our players are inconsistent

Schoonmaker caught all of 35 passes his senior year. 54 total, in 5 years.

Sooooo, exactly what made us think he was 2nd round worthy?
They panicked. It was a deep TE draft. As much as they count on young players they refused to count on Ferguson and needed to replace Schultz.

They passed on LaPorta (a reported finalist) for Mazi, then there was a run in the early second.

That’s what happens when you fixate on position need in a draft. I was saying for years they were getting away with that but would eventually bite them and it did.

I would have settled for Captain America, Steve Rogers, at that time. Let's also add that Jerry signed his QB with half a leg to a massive contract. I don't think the old goat is phased by anything in life

Yes, where are all the cheerleaders who were telling us how great a pick it was now?

Well the good news is I don't know how many more seasons he has left. This year he looks older than any year in the past, and he is obviously, but man he is starting to age. He was in tears in his weekly post game press conference. This has to be wearing on him.

I don't think there were all that many. From what I remember, most were POed.
Oh no, we had some who were defending the pick and continued to defend while he couldn't get on the field or did nothing when he was on the field.

Hendershot got some snaps and caught a pass last night for the Chiefs. I wish Andy Reid and his staff were the Cowboys coaches. Because ours don't seem to know what they are doing.

Coaching matters and the Cowboys have many poor coaches including their TE coach. I'd like to see a really good TE coach and OC work with Schoon to see if he can become a better contributor on offense. I see Schoon playing on special teams as expected. But we need him producing on offense where we clearly need lots of help.
I wanted Andy Reid here so bad when the Eagles let him go. Most didn’t agree because of his SB record at the time but he is such a great coach. Wish they would’ve have hired him when they had the chance.

How many GMs keep their job with this track record? Two: Jerry and el cheapo Mike Brown who finally moved out of the position.

Well, that explains why so many of you rail on drafting for need. It's not that drafting for need is bad, it's that we draft badly.

"Yeah, Michael Irvin got his *** back there because he had shredded his knee and we couldn't afford to lose players. And won three super bowls. And there guys in that locker room who can do the same. They can do the same. When you're in there you have to go for it and be in there."

I don't see developing TE's as a real concern

Obviously the Chief's coaching is better than ours, or probably any other team, but Hendershot has only caught 1 pass this season and was only promoted from the practice squad after 2 other back up TE's for the Chiefs suffered season ending injuries. That doesn't exactly support the idea the Chiefs saw and unlocked something the Cowboys couldn't.

And frankly, while Schoonmaker has been a disappointment, Ferguson and Schultz, both 4th round picks that didn't have much impact as receivers in college, developed very nicely for the Cowboys.
