Schottenheimer blown away by Jalen Tolbert's preparation

So was Larry Allen. Has nothing to do with small or big school - the talent will shine through. That being said, this is camp PR. Oh look, this guy's going to destroy all comers - then the season starts and we won't even see him on the field.
That was kind of my point about rice...lol

Cowboys OC Brian Schottenheimer while talking about WR Jalen Tolbert: “Ask him to see his notebook one day. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. How he has prepared his mind, for a young player, you’re talking about a second-year player, I was blown away. I told him that you need to save that and I’m gonna use that in front of the offense. It’s dynamic. I’m talking highlights and the penmanship is amazing. He’s been through every install. And that’s what this game requires. It’s not just talent. He’s figuring it out, but he’s also working his a** off.”

This is why some are actually interested in camp news.

By HIS standards. Had Tolbert put up 49 catches for just under a thousand yards and 3 tds last year, this place would have been drooling over him.
The 49ers played him through his struggles. He had a bunch of drops as a rookie. He would have been a Cowboy if not for Bill Walsh being smart enough to trade ahead of them.

I live 100 miles from candelstick parks old location... I know all about Jerry and his "Struggles."

I hate this social stigma that small school players can't come into the NFL and compete. It's weird.
of course they can, but there is a reason guys are at small schools.... and it is normally not by their choice. The overwhelming majority of quality NFL players do NOT come from small schools.

I’m glad to hear this but I’m not going to be blown away by anyone until it’s in a game that matters.

They don't, but I find it funny that people will so easily scoff at players drafted from small schools and automatically write them off. Sure, I get the talent disparity between certain conferences, but it just comes down to the player to me. Their talent surely is important, but so is their drive and willingness to pour their heart into the sport. Fans think coming out of the SEC is some golden ticket to excellence.

Although plenty of small school players have made it, there is a lot of them that have failed. The SEC players are just easier (safer) to transition to the nfl since they have a lot more tape versus other high caliber players.

IN Tolbert's case, he comes out of small school and couldnt even get a darn uniform on Sundays despite the team being in desperate need of WRs...... he better have a solid year this year.

Well, that's one way to increase his trade value.

We'll see.
