Schottenheimer: Jerry is 84 years old, we are in win now mode

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer on @1053thefan said they continue to be hopeful that CB Joey Porter Jr. can play Sunday at Houston.

“We’ll see how he moves around today, see if he’s sore today. But I thought it was a great start yesterday. Really, really pleased with not just what I saw on the field, but really just the way he attacked his preparation and in learning the system. The big thing that will drive this is his ability to communicate with Caleb Downs and some of the safeties and things like that as we get ready to finish the prep.”

Schottenheimer on the trade: “We’re in a win-now mode. Jerry (Jones) is 84 years old, we got Dak Prescott playing at an MVP level right now, we’ve got a couple of incredible receivers. A chance to get a young player like Joey and add him to your roster with a secondary that is very, very beat up, I think (the trade) happens no matter what (happened vs. Baltimore).

“I think we’re always in the business of going and finding great players. And people like to call the Cowboys because we’re not afraid to make deals.”

Maybe its win now. Have the team worth an astronomical price. Sell team to prevent family drama when Jerry passes. One could hope. ;)

I recall when we had some old geezer at DC (Kiffin, I think), and people were saying that he being 112 years old was no big deal because their elderly grammy still had her faculties. Like being an NFL DC requires the same mental processing as whatever grandma was doing.

You sure?

How about an 84 year old billionaire with top notch medical care that keeps him going for another 15 years?
That post was a play on Jerry's quote that there's nothing more dangerous than an old man with money.

Like 5Stars said though, at some point all the money in the world isn't going to help.

Cliff notes:

Schotty:
Jerry is 84
He is still a football moron
i am living proof of the fact that he has learned absolutely nothing

Considering the number of players brought in via trades and FA, it appears Jerry in win now mode.

But we know Jerry is a Forbes first guy and articles/interviews like this are just meant to sell the brand more.
We didn’t do enough to address the 900lb gorilla in the room - lack of pass rush.

This is pure bullfeces. If Jerry was really in win now mode, he would step down as GM. Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting a different outcome.
