You'll note that nowhere on this list is any talk of Schottenheimer's coaching acumen. Because, honestly, he has none. But that's secondary to Jerry. There are more important factors in hiring a coach than whether or not the coach in question has shown a great aptitude at what he does.

This franchise is so screwed. In fact, I am pretty sure now that Philly and Washington has lapped us, the Giants may do so in the next year or two.
I don't think Schottenheimer is a bad football coach. He's been an offensive coordinator for several teams, so either coaches like his game or like his name. That doesn't mean he'll be a great or even good head coach. I don't like the choice, but honestly, I prefer it over some of the retreads that Dallas could have brought in. Schottenheimer would have to prove that he can handle it and probably will flame out worse than Wade because he hasn't been nearly as good as Phillips was as a coordinator. However, he's a blank slate as a head coach. What the team does with the coordinator positions will probably give us a better idea of what to expect if No-Schott is hired as head coach.

To be fair. Let's also say this, Ben Johnson and Glenn have never been a HC before now either. Does that disqualify THEM if the same argument applies to THEM and Shotty? Just saying, Glenn is a year older than Shotty. Nobody truly knows who will be a good HC or who won't til they do it. Just offering up the flip side to the coin.
Yeah, I'm not going to dismiss it outright because you never know. Now, we do have evidence that this front office can't/won't do what it takes in team building to get us to the promised land, but I'm not going to take that out on No-Schott. He might actually get a fate worse than he deserves if he takes on this head coaching job.

They should let him hire his own coordinators and staff so that the success or failure is his. But no.

If he's hired, I think Zimmer would stay as defensive coordinator. Not sure who would be the offensive coordinator, maybe that's why the Joneses were interested in interviewing Anthony Lynn.

This would only make sense to the Joneses. Would possibly be the most uninspiring head coaching hire in franchise history.

There's going to be alot of crow eaten here when Shotty breaks out the new offense that he's been keeping under wraps

His complex offense will be motion heavy and passing plays will scheme wide open receivers all over the field.

His playbook will make Sean Paytons offense look like a Pop Warner offense.

Everybody just needs to remember where they where when the announcement of HC is given to Shotty so we can all tell our grandchildren about it

Beats chest twice... kisses fingers...points upward
All that sounds uplifting until you see who is tossing the rock around.

This has Stephen’s fingerprints all over it with little to do with Jerry. It is truly going to get worse after Jerry is gone.
And this is why the old "Can't wait until Jerry is gone/dies" holds no water. Stephen is just as bad, if not worst. Jerry used to be a wildcat type owner who made moves, now yes, many of them didn't work. But he loved to make the splash moves. TO signing, Galloway/Roy Williams trades. Stephen is the exact opposite. He is a bargain bin, thrift store person. He doesn't value free agency at all. Loves his own guys, even though we never actually win. The draft after round 1 is terrible for us and even way too many misses at round 1.

Stephen's handprints are much more apparent in the last decade. It's only going to get worse/

1) He is the son of a famous former HC. Jerry loves that.

2) He is a first time HC, desperate for a chance at a head gig. Jerry loves that. He can use that to leverage authority over Schottenheimer as he jams his preferred assistants (cough, cough, Witten) down the throat of Brian.

3) He's probably fairly cheap, relatively speaking, for a HC. You know Jerry loves that.

4) He's been in the building already, so Jerry already knows him. Jerry loves that as he doesn't have to put a ton of effort and money into an exhaustive search.

5) It's a controversial hire which means Jerry gets tons of publicity but also, it fits right in with Jerry's belief he's a maverick and a football genius and the people don't know how good Schottenheimer is. When he succeeds, it will make Jerry look like the football genius he so desperately wants to be seen as.

6) Schottenheimer isn't going to squawk in the offseason about FAs, etc. In fact, I suspect Jerry basically told him this is what you are going get, can you live with that? This gets back to #2 - desperation.

You'll note that nowhere on this list is any talk of Schottenheimer's coaching acumen. Because, honestly, he has none. But that's secondary to Jerry. There are more important factors in hiring a coach than whether or not the coach in question has shown a great aptitude at what he does.

It’s like you’re reading my mind.

100% all of the above.

I’m going to take a contrarian view. I have zero idea how Schottenheimer will do as HC. He’s only been a Coordinator with questionable results. But there are plenty of outstanding coordinators that failed miserably as a head coach. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as long as a creative OC is brought onboard.
So why not hire a coordinator with a good resume?
