Schotty gave a Good First Impression

Nope, not one person is going to be able to lift the shovel this time. All our players ALWAYS love our coaches because they are all spineless puppets, which is why they get hired in the first place. Give me a coach that our players don't vouche for and maybe I'll get excited, because that's a sign the zero accountability culture might be dead. Until then, let's just hug it out in the locker room, like our guys, and say "don't discount hanging around the rim!"
Clown show with no interest in winning.
 
I’ll say this I loved the Rex Ryan Jets / Mark Sanchez / Nick Mangold / LaDanian Tomlinson D’Brickashaw / they had a collection of really good not great players and they had Pittsburgh beaten In the title game - shame they lost.
Schottenheimer was the OC and their offense was power football .
But that was 15 years ago and really his career since has been recycled garbage,
I still dont know what made him qualified.
 
In full disclosure I only watched the first 30 minutes of the press conference and to me it seemed quite contrived. Jerry and Stephen both seemed to be defensive with Jerry deflecting, and quite deftly I might add, questions about the selection process. I don’t know that getting along with the Jones family and Dak’s comfort and trust are solid prerequisites for a head coach. Then Jerry started talking about osmosis…and how Shotty had however many years of beneficial exposure to coaches and players then Jerry gives him a back-handed compliment about how Shotty has no experience and this is one of Jerry’s biggest risks ever undertaken…BUT they are going to maintain the all-important continuity yet make changes.
Add to that Stephen’s air quotes and Jerry’s folksy anecdotes… I really don’t know if much of anything of substance was divulged or discussed.
Shotty seems to be a good dude; was very gracious, thanked the Jones family and was effusive in his praise for them…it makes me think he is going to be deferential to the whims of Jerry and Stephen. I’m hoping he might be the one to stand up to Jerry, but I feel Shotty will just be another in a long line of puppet coaches.

I agree for the most part and I analyze people and situations for a living. Stephen is a HUGE issue regarding how negatively the Cowboys have evolved for the past 29 years or so. Seems deeply entrenched into the philosophy of how they operate having great influence over Jerry (IMO). Stephen is likely 85% of the issue.
 
I just hope he can coach and push back on the jones when they start meddling. Good luck coach.
 
I hate to say it but as much poo-pooing he's getting, what if he's good? Dan Campbell and Siriani both got dogged like this. Although they have much better top cover than Schotty has. Hard to succeed when you have as dumb and cheap owners as he's going to be dealing with. So I've talked myself out of believing he's going to be good in one sentence.

In any case, we're basically in the position of having to hope that Jerry - not known for his acumen in selecting coaches, and well known for his contempt for coaches - saw something in BS that nobody else in the NFL saw over the course of his numerous coaching stops.

Not gonna lie, I want this to work out but I don't see it. I got zero energy from Schottenheimer, practically nothing of substance but pollyanna, pie in the sky proclamations. I don't feel comfortable there actually is a plan to change anything substantive. All around the league, nee coaches ate excited to join their new team while this felt like a shotgun wedding.

I fear he's in over his head and the Joneses will compound that issue. I didn't get the sense that anyone was excited today. I feel awful for him, and that's not how you should leave an introductory press conference full of softballs from a friendly press

They sure sounded excited when they introduced him and the room exploded into applause from the players that were in attendance.

I was watching and the entire room got drained by rambling Jerry and never recovered.

Obviously, you don't win games in a prss conference. So it may not matter at all. But I'm more skeptical that ever that this is going to work out.

Seems like a nice guy, but just doesn't seem like he is "that dood". Just don't see him leading this team to greatness.

Honestly, it's such a weird, random hire. Don't see this ending well.
