The only reason Jerry would hire someone like Schottenheimer is because he has no real options and hiring a random guy to coach in 2025 would likely be possible with a 2-3 year contract and an easy person to fire after only one season if someone he wants becomes available and/or is willing to take the job in 2026.

If Jerry wants to waste another year of his remaining life closing his eyes and throwing a dart hoping to land anywhere near the dart board, then by all means.

If the rumors are true that Ben Johnson got $13M, then Kellen is probably out of Jerry's price range.

Not that Kellen will get $13M, but he's one win away from the Super Bowl. If he can command something even on the low end of Ben Johnson range from a team desperate to make a splash hire (Jaguars?) he should take that and it's probably more than Cap Boy is willing to pay.

The level of toxicity in this situation cannot be overstated.

Does the rest of the staff cater to the HC or the HC in waiting who could be their future boss?

How do you attract quality assistant coaches to Dallas for a brief 2-3 year stay?

What message does this send to players knowing their HC is a temporary puppet?

And at the end of the day, who is to say Witten is worth all of this? What if he's another Garrett?

There really needs to be an organized boycott of this family starting now. We are in unprecedented territory, fanbase needs to fight back.

Schotty will likely be a better HC than Witten. At least he has some actual coaching experience. You're right, this is Garrett 2.0 and it doesn't work. Dan Campbell had 11 years of coaching under his belt before he got the job in Detroit.

Simply ordaining someone as the HC in waiting with no real NFL coaching experience is a disaster waiting to happen.
