Schultz emerged last season and he’s picked up where he left off this season. He’s developed into a very solid TE. Heading into last season practically everyone on this board was ready to cut him and were drooling over Blake Jarwin.

And Schultz is outperforming both of the guys the Patriots signed. But they raised the market to the $12 million a year range, and that’s what Schultz and his agent will be looking for.

Appreciate him while he’s still here, and then hope they have a replacement in McKeon for next year.

The old version of Witten....yes.
The younger version was a beast.

But how much better was he than Schultz really? I don’t think there is a big leap in ability from prime Witten to prime Schultz.

Schultz kinda does the same thing right now and is probably a better redzone target than Witten ever was.

Jarwin made a few plays down the field and had a couple of nice games against the Giants and fans began anointing him. I was never sold on him but I was also one of those who was ready to move on from Dalton Schultz a couple of years ago. I never thought he would become as solid a TE as he has.

as a super valuable weapon. Better get to work on resigning him before he is a pro-bowler. That might even be this season, which would drive the price up to 50 million.

A TE of his caliber is very important to our offense.

We talkin' bout the same guy most of the experts on here were calling a bust \ waste of a draft pick his first couple seasons?? Imagine where his career might be if the previous regime hadn't the end of the road player hog up all the snaps during that time.

He looked good before his injury.

I just don’t think anyone expected Schultz to be this good including the Cowboys.

I’d like to keep him but he may play his way out of Dallas.

He’s a good solid player but a lot of his success is due to teams being ok with Dalton Schultz trying to beat them and him just being a forgotten man.

Good player, good skill, but no need to pay the guy like he is some elite TE when he is really a 4-6 mill a year player.

He isn't "forgotten". Opposing defenses don't have enough firepower to cover everyone.

I happen to agree....a lot of "average" TE's would feast as well.

I think you know this but

Witten was ALL-PRO (or THE very best in whole league) a few times. And Pro Bowl (not as meaningful) 11 times.

Could be in his BEST interest to stay with the Cowboys, even for a little less money. If we are being honest, teams out there featuring the TE as a major part of their offense, at least enough to pay $10-12M. Just my guess, but I can see Stephen pushing hard to get him signed.

Schultz is a beast. He is definitely becoming a Pro Bowl-caliber TE and one of Dak's favorite targets. One of the reasons Dak gets the ball out so quickly is because he knows Schultz can get open as a security blanket.

The Witten comparisons are unfair to Schultz. I see Schultz as the next Owen Daniels. Very good TE for the Texans and Broncos who made a few Pro Bowls in his career

Witten was ALL-PRO (or THE very best in whole league) a few times. And Pro Bowl (not as meaningful) 11 times.

And it wasn't just stats. Work ethic and attitude. Beast. Some people's memory might be going haywire.

Yeah not denying any of that and my post admits Witten is better.

I just don’t know if realistically we aren’t getting something similar even though Schultz may not be as talented.

The guy leads the team in receptions, leads all TE’s in 3rd down conversions, and he doesn’t disappear in the redzone like Witten. He is also probably better at RAC than Witten ever was too.
