Yeah not denying any of that and my post admits Witten is better.

I just don’t know if realistically we aren’t getting something similar even though Schultz may not be as talented.

The guy leads the team in receptions, leads all TE’s in 3rd down conversions, and he doesn’t disappear in the redzone like Witten. He is also probably better at RAC than Witten ever was too.
I heard on the radio yesterday that a Patriot insider said Belichick always wants to take away a QBs easy-escape route....and that, believe it or not, the name that keeps coming up is Dalton Schultz.

Maybe because our WR group is so deep there's no particular guy to take away.
Anyway, it surprised me.

Dalton is an UFA after this season so unless Dallas applies the franchise tag to him he just very well may play his way out of Dallas seeing as how Schultz may be looking at Top 5 TE money which would put is annual average around $12.5-$14M.....NE paid both TE Henry & Smith an annual salary of $12.5M and Schultz is outperforming both of them.

Jarwin made a few plays down the field and had a couple of nice games against the Giants and fans began anointing him. I was never sold on him but I was also one of those who was ready to move on from Dalton Schultz a couple of years ago. I never thought he would become as solid a TE as he has.
I thought Schultz would be that revolving door type of player, good enough to stick on a roster on a rookie deal and be gone. But he has proven more versatile than the "athletic" Jarwin.

Yeah but we got an even easier escape route with Zeke and Pollard.

If they try to slow down everything up close than our wideouts will just run by them.

What New England needs is the officials to make atrocious calls that favor them.

Some holding and some 3rd down conversions by the refs is what they need.

The only game we lost this year was by refs making or not making calls that resulted in us losing by a FG.

I think either Henry or Smith would be monsters in this offense.....with all of these weapons and our oline

Kind of a tough comparison.

But your point about Schultz possibly getting paid well is valid!

Schultz is playing really good, but it is mostly because of the cowboys system and weapons. If Schultz gets injured, Jarwin would come in and be really good. They are not top tier talents. If Schultz wants to sign a very reasonable contract they should resign him. I was an advocate for Jarwin being big this year, but I don't think it matters. Defenses are trying to stop the run or the WR's, it is a good team to be a TE on.

Most tight ends they can draft will be productive in this system.

It's a nice touch that people seem to have blown right past this. Even though it makes the most sense.

With Lamb, Cooper, and WR Co., Zeke, Pollard, not to mention Dak. Just about any TE should have a good day if targeted.

If they don't then they really stink.

He's cool and all, but that 4.75 sec 40 yard dash that he did at the combine shows on my screen in a huge way. Even though he's slow as hell, he gets the job done. Keep doing it. Bless his heart.

It's no secret that Schultz has become Dak's go-to guy when the pressure is on. I'll bet Bellichick is aware of it, too. ;)

I'm anxious to see McKeon performing, whenever he's ready to get some live action. We'll have some real depth at TE.

Jarwin doesn't block. At all.

He’s a weapon no doubt, but he dropped an easy TD last week too. Having said that he might be my favorite player on O now.
Surprisingly you are the first person I've seen bring up the dropped TD. That play isn't even an iota of a concern for me though. If that is something we saw a often that would be one thing, but even the elite of the elite will drop a pass once in a while, even if a very long while. Right now Schultz is catching 84% of his targets, which is incredibly high.

He looks like a guy that spent a lot of time watching Jason Witten and is just a younger more athletic version of that, haha.

He doesn’t have a real weakness in his game.
In my house we call him “Mitten”…as in a mini Witten

He’s gonna get the bag. We won’t pay him what the market will.

I like him, but he’s also benefitting from the coverage.

Yeah, he ain't no Kyle Pitts, ....but Dallas don't need no Pitts. He fits this offense perfectly. But if he wants in excess of $10m per year he will be history here. I think Dallas will be willing to roll with McKeon, Jarwin and someone else they can get their hands on. I used to feel they could keep him somehow but now it appears he will be tough to keep just like Gallup.

I’d like to keep him but he may play his way out of Dallas.

He’s a good solid player but a lot of his success is due to teams being ok with Dalton Schultz trying to beat them and him just being a forgotten man.

Good player, good skill, but no need to pay the guy like he is some elite TE when he is really a 4-6 mill a year player.
Belichick isn’t going to forget about him I bet.
