Seems to be several articles over last couple of days about Dak's contract. They all tend to center around the length of the contract. From what I gather, Dak wants a 4/5 year deal while Dallas wants a 2/3/4 year contract. Will this hang things up through the start of the season or will they find middle ground which would seem to be 4 years or 3 years with an option year.

It also seems that the amount (average per year) has been done and most likely the bonus money guaranteed. The structure of the contract will obviously include void years to spread out the bonus money. The question becomes the total amount which will also depend on the years.

It seems to me that a 3 or 4 year deal benefits Dak more than the Cowboys as he is 31 so it means he gets another big bite of the apple at 34 or 35. I know all the media is saying that the contract is going to average $60 million a year although IMO it will be slightly less but also see the bonus being at least $85 million and total guarantee being around $290 million if a 5 year deal or $240 million for a 4 year deal.

Regardless of what the years are, I suspect that Dak is the guy for at least the next 3 years so Jerry/Stephen/McClay better have a plan in place to be able to move up in the draft in 2026/2027/2028 for a top tier QB. That is unless they want to put us through another long drawn out contract negotiation with Dak in 2026/2027/2028 again. God help us!!!
So they’ve agreed on the money and now it’s just the years. It’s going to be a great week ahead.

No chance Dallas wants a short deal and Dak wants term. That has to be backwards.
Disagree. Dallas is mentally ready to move on, it's just too risky to cut bait right now.

I think if Dak flames out again this season, they will draft a QB in Rd 1 in 2025 who will immediately challenge for QB1. And be the starter in 2026 no matter what.

Anything that ends in Dak leaving Dallas is not stupid.
A smarter GM gets more than a comp pick for Dak.

The fact you can't see that is not really all that surprising. Howie Roseman was able to get real value for Wentz, a guy who the Eagles BENCHED for Hurts. If Jerry's plan is to not sign Dak at all and is just playing games in negotiations, he screwed this up royally.

If I had to guess, the real issue is that Dak wants guarantees that Dallas isn't willing to give.
I doubt if Dallas is willing to agree to a no-trade, no-cut deal full of guaranteed money as they did before.
And they shouldn't.

I don’t care if we get anything for Dak.

Dak being off this team and his loser energy polluting another locker room will suffice just fine.

If it is too risky then they are not mentally ready.
Solid point, but in a sense the "no deal to date" sends a message that they are ready to look elsewhere for a QB solution if need be. As would a shorter contract.

not in Dallas, NO DEAL means we're about to give you a "record setting deal!"

a little more and as crazy as it sounds by 2028 $60M per year could be a bargain price for the Cowboys if they dont backload it too much.
I have said many times......my preference is no more than another 2 years. It can be 4-5 years total but I want an out after two more years. This gives two years to groom his replacement.

Maybe thats what the Cowboys are thinking, but if you put yourself in Daks shoes do you want to stay with a team that wont fully commit and is actively going to try and replace you? If this story is true the exact scenario you have may be the issue. This would also make sense as the years are likely not as much of a factor as the guaranteed money is.

And that's fine.

But that doesn't change the fact that if Jerry's plan is to just screw around in negotiations because doesn't want him as QB in 2025, that's quite a screw up by the GM. If you don't want him in 2025, they should have gone to Dak in March and had him work out a trade.

That's just classic roster mismanagement right there.

That means the deal is close. That was the same holdup with CeeDee. Basically it means all the need to do is make it a 4 year extension.

Dak wants free agency.

He would be a fool to have accepted a trade with free agency this close.

Dak will go to the highest bidder.
