“The hold up at this point from what I understand is about the years the Dallas Cowboys are willing to commit to. While, it’s assumed, that Dak is going to be paid at the top of the market, the Dallas Cowboys are aware of that. It’s... do they want to put themselves in a position, contractually, that will keep Dak in Dallas longer than two, three, four years. And that’s what Dak is looking for. He’s looking for a long-term commitment from Dallas. So the hold up here is really the belief from the Dallas Cowboys. This is a guy who’s won a lot of games. But is that enough? Winning’s not enough for Jerry Jones. We know this. They want to do more... they don’t want to just be the team that wins a lot of games. They want to be the team that can play in the Super Bowl.”

When did the Cowboys become a team that wants to play in the Super Bowl?

Seems to be several articles over last couple of days about Dak's contract. They all tend to center around the length of the contract. From what I gather, Dak wants a 4/5 year deal while Dallas wants a 2/3/4 year contract. Will this hang things up through the start of the season or will they find middle ground which would seem to be 4 years or 3 years with an option year.

It also seems that the amount (average per year) has been done and most likely the bonus money guaranteed. The structure of the contract will obviously include void years to spread out the bonus money. The question becomes the total amount which will also depend on the years.

It seems to me that a 3 or 4 year deal benefits Dak more than the Cowboys as he is 31 so it means he gets another big bite of the apple at 34 or 35. I know all the media is saying that the contract is going to average $60 million a year although IMO it will be slightly less but also see the bonus being at least $85 million and total guarantee being around $290 million if a 5 year deal or $240 million for a 4 year deal.

Regardless of what the years are, I suspect that Dak is the guy for at least the next 3 years so Jerry/Stephen/McClay better have a plan in place to be able to move up in the draft in 2026/2027/2028 for a top tier QB. That is unless they want to put us through another long drawn out contract negotiation with Dak in 2026/2027/2028 again. God help us!!!
Extend Dak yesterday for as much froggys he wants.

Jerry does not deserve another SB...he sold his soul to a devil.

I am completely shocked by this. I believe this is true since it’s being reported and there’s nothing to say it’s not true. I am not a fan of signing Dak at all but if we do it I would much prefer a long term deal, 5 years or so. This would spread out the cap hit and give us more flexibility. I thought Dak wanted a short term contract so he can get in the market faster and Jerry wanted a long term deal.

So the fact it’s being reported that it’s reversed, Jerry wants short term and Dak wants long term, is a sign that this is Jerry’s fault he’s not signed and not Dak.

Dak signing a 5-6 year deal would realistically be a “team friendly” deal because it gives us flexibility. I think Jerry is the reason he’s not signed. If these reports are true then my takeaway is Jerry may not want him, or Jerry doesn’t want him long term. Again, very surprised.

I think 4 years is pretty optimal, since they signed Lamb. Signing Lamb is a commitment to this core. You extend Prescott to 4, and extend Parsons. If they haven't won enough to justify continuing, then you have 3 tradeable assets that will help you expedite a rebuild. Assuming you hit in a QB.

The possibility of drafting a Sam Darnold or Wilson is real. So is getting stuck with an Andy Dalton or Ryan Tannehil. You cant live in fear of that though

100%. He picks the players and the coaches.

And quit pretending like you are blaming players, when it is only 1.
He picked Dak, so applying your logic that is reason enough not to resign him. So you are on our side after all

I would think Dak wants the longer deal. He would retire after finishing up a 4/5 year deal at 35/36.

" If they haven't won enough to justify continuing, then you have 3 tradeable assets that will help you expedite a rebuild. "

That's literally the reason for not signing Dak to ANOTHER long term big money deal. He's already had 8 years of not winning enough.
