It doesn't matter what scheme Wentz is in. He'll excel in them all. Probably from the first game of his rookie year.

Supporting cast doesn't matter either. Just give him a field, a football and 10 other schmucks. Grab a seat. Film it for the grandkids.

You are going so far overboard on the Wentz thing hard to tell if you like him at all and are being sarcastic ( like you do with others you do not like, e.g. Swaim, etc ) or if you really do like him but are just purposefully being silly. Regardless, it's entertaining IMO.

Guess it works out for you either way as well. You can wait till after the results are in (after a couple years go by) before you reveal your true feelings about him. Sounds like a good plan, LOL.

At least it seems like you want a QB at #4, which I agree with. Goff, Wentz, or Lynch, I can't tell if any or none will turn out well. Just hope we take a gamble on one of them. Only way our team with Jerry and Garrett at the head can hope to succeed in the future after Romo barring a miracle.

I really do like Wentz. I would absolutely draft him at 4. I would even trade up for him.

@toddarcher: I wrote in last week’s mailbag about need vs. best player available. I don’t think it is as black and white as everybody thinks, and Laremy Tunsil is an example. Now, let me start by saying I think he could be the first pick in the draft and not even be available when the Cowboys pick, but for this question I’ll play along. There’s no doubt he’s a great player and likely will be the top player available. The Cowboys have rebuilt their line through the draft since taking Tyron Smith in 2011. Doug Free is getting up in age at right tackle and Tunsil could be a Day 1 starter. But can the Cowboys afford to spend another first-round pick on the line? Travis Frederick will be a free agent following the 2017 season after they pick up the fifth-year option. Zack Martin will be a Cowboy through at least 2018. From a salary-cap standpoint, it will be hard to keep the pieces together, in my opinion. Possible? Sure. But it would be easier to keep all of the high-priced linemen if the Cowboys had a quarterback on a rookie deal and a receiver on a low-money deal.

I was a big fan of Jason and Scott after the 2014 season. I thought we'd finally found a coaching combo on offense that could compete against the best in the league every week.

Then we won 1 game without Tony and Dez, and the offense looking downright painful to watch, every single game.

Change something.

The scheme is a work of art. Need talent.

As inconsistent and maddening as Garrett's system has been, taking away the mess from this season, this offense has averaged 25.2ppg since 2007. That SHOULD be more than enough to consistently NOT be a .500 team.

The problem has ALWAYS been that the D has NOT been that good - only ONCE since 2007 has the team been a Top 10 D in ppg allowed (2009 - #2)..........RS is right - it's all about the talent that isn't there, YET Jerry thinks it is.

Because we had an elite or darn near elite QB in Romo running it in 2014. Last year proved our offense can't function without one. That's why I'm so gung-ho to draft QB at #4. It at least gives us a chance with this offense in the future after Romo is done. If we go the scraps route ( mid or low level draft pick or average at best FA vet ), our offense will flop and I doubt our defense will ever get good enough to compensate for it. Don't think we'll ever become the 85 bears on defense no matter how many resources we throw at it.

Now maybe some are right and no QB coming out this year will ever turn out to be elite or even come close to that. But nobody knows that right now and the big 3 ( Goff, Wentz, and Lynch ) at least offer various levels of hope and potential to do so. Any other is a pipe dream/fools chance at best.

That was before Stephen took over.

Offensive system is exactly the same.

Are you insane?

It's the exact same? I'm guessing you're using "system" loosely here. Watch the 2013 offense and then 2014 - one that abandoned the run often and relied on short passing routes, Romo's lowest average yards per pass, to 2014 run heavy offense. We then head to 2015 where we seemed to be implementing more screens and utilizing RBs as WRs.

The Garret and Callahan offense was nothing like Linehan's.

The offense was pretty competitive those years, too. The consistent problem had been the defense.

Yeah, like when we jumped out 28-7 this year vs Falcons .... Yet failed to register a win?

We lost because our O couldn't score 40..... Stop the insanity

You guys need to relax...Linehan's 2016 plans are twofold.

1. Pretend 2015 didn't happen.

2. Use the redzone plays he poached from the NFLPA game last week. Had to laugh when the North squad was practicing the exact same plays Team National was using in the Redzone. Plan on that 2 TE set w/ a WR running a cross underneath...w/ the RB slipping out on a choice route to become a Cowboy's staple...

We need the talent point blank... UPGRADE the TE, RB AND #2 WR spot

Let me get this straight, we have basically 4 number one picks on the o-line, a first ballot hall of fame TE, a top 5 WR, a 1000 yard RB, one of the top slot WR in the league, and a QB that was #2 in the MVP vote last season

And we still need more talent?

I have never heard of an offense that needs all-pros at every position to operate
