He's ended up being a starter at some point or another, so long as he was a favorite of Marinelli, and he's never taken a pay cut, even when he went to a backup role.
as he was last year. See how long will the Cowboys continue to roll with that in the near future.
He started the first two games of the season at RDE and would have not ranked last by PFF in rush defense like Quinn did but goofballs wanna pay Quinn 12M a year now.. oy vey.
He is owed 1.1M already and you can cut his cap hit to 3-4M easily enough.

Then he provides one guy who can be multiple and play both schemes.

How about No?

At some point, there is going to be value in bringing him back. As to what the contract is? I mean you'd be pretty foolish, for example, to say you wouldnt want Crawford back for $750K a year. He's worth that and some.

Note, I am not suggesting he has to come back but I don't hate the guy to the point that I just think he totally sucks beyond sucking and isn't worth any contract value.

While @Risen Star is asleep...

"Scott McCurley and Jeff Blasko are reuniting with Mike McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys after working on his staff in Green Bay, according to sources. McCurley is expected to have a role with the linebackers, while Blasko will serve as the assistant offensive line coach to Joe Philbin."

Mike McCarthy is in full control of assembling the staff. I like it regardless of the names.

Guess Sean Lee is not coming as a coach now.

So he can have hip issues again and you pay him for another season of no production? They made enough mistakes in iverpaying this guy and receiving poor returns already. There is zero reason to entertain the thought of continuing to do so.

"Foolish" is continuing to throw good money after bad. And even his vet minimum would be aboove the $750K you're referencing. And sucking at more than one position isn't a positive either.

Again, no thanks, not at any price.

Crawford is and has been always jack of all several trades but still master of none. That's a utility rotational guy but I don't see why he's made out to be more than what ya'll
trying to make him out to be. and still the goofballs that wanna keep Crawford around as a starter. LOL

at least in Quinn, you've had a productive 11 sacker (despite missing two games per suspension) and a past resume pro bowler with a single 19 sack season.
but it's not a given at all that the free agent Quinn returns if we are switching to a 3-4 scheme, to which he has had past struggles with,(Miami) as well as his age could be a factor against him.

Injury is always a risk.

But he's a better player than anyone else you would find, say, for $1MM. You just hate him so much that you are being irrational at this point.

He absolutely should not be back at his current tag number. He shouldn't be back at half his cap number. But if he were to take a steep discount and he's back here playing for a couple of million (I have zero idea how likely that would be)? That's not a bad move at all.

Plus if two new coaches - DC and DL - are fine with him back at a reduced price, who am I to quibble?

Seriously? You want to claim that the "risks" are the same for an aging player coming off of double hip surgery that they are for everybody? Have at it, the floor is yours.

Now it's $1 MM? A minute ago it was $750K. That Humber' creeping up all the time. But yeah, I'm the guy being "irrational"...

So now the DC and DL coach are thinking your way? Funny, I haven't heard either of them say that. If anything, the sacred cow status of Crawford and Heath left town with Garrett.

Save every penny you can on Crawford and put it into the pile that you pay Quinn, a guy who actually earned his keep.

I have no idea what the DC and DL coach are thinking. I should have been more clear, as it was meant to be a question, not a statement of fact.

If they don't want any part of him at all, fine by me. I am not emotionally invested in bringing Crawford back. If they want him back and they can do it at a reduced price, I won't throw a tantrum either because I am also not emotionally invested in wanting him jettisoned from the roster at all costs. All I am saying is I will defer to them on this.

It not like either of us have much choice in the matter, do we? They'll do whatever they feel they need to do.

But if it were my call, I'm starting over as cleanly as I can. Nearly every one of the 'Hot Boyz' was a disappointment and embarrassment, I have no desire for any of the defensive linemen, save for Quinn, to return in 2020.

I hope they resign Crawford just to watch stash meltdown if for no other reason.

Seriously he should not be paid any more than $3m per season ie a veteran backup.

If they run a Hybrid, Crawford definitely stays. Just need to upgrade the IDL.

This team missed Crawford's leadership. I expect that we might rework his deal like we did with Free years back. Fully guarantee the 8 mill he's due but replace that with a 2 year 10 mill deal. He gets his 8 mill and we get him at 5 mill a year and a reasonable cap hit if we cut him after the year.

He’s one of the best lineman we had.

McCurley is an unknown for me so I looked him up. He started out as a QC coach under McCarthy in 2006 and worked his way up to assistant LB coach by 2018. He was out of the NFL last year. He is credited with working with Matthews on the transition from OLB to ILB.

Not exactly inspiring but Nolan's experience is with LB most of all the position groups. Linguist the DB coach comes with accolades but no NFL experience.

I'm already uneasy about the defense and these hires do little to reassure me.

Crawford can't even stay on the field, not to mention that brawl he got probably won't help his case.

One would be hard-pressed to find a worse group of inside linebackers than the ones featured in Green Bay's defense between 2011-2018.

A lot of that can be blamed on the GM signing two terrible players (AJ Hawk and Brad Jones) to lucrative second contracts -- making them among the highest-paid ILBers in the NFL, and then stocking the position with "starters" like DJ Smith, Jamari Lattimore, Nate Palmer, and Jake Ryan.

Definitely curious on how they'll run the defense when it comes to defending the 12, 21, etc packages.
Will they run a hybrid between a 4-3/3-4?

All 3-4 defenses are hybrids. Even when Parcels and Wade were running there versions, the OLBs had their hands on the ground half the time. They just need to fit the defense to the personnel they have b/c you can't bring in 11 new starters.

So if someone yells out ...Hey Mac...who answers, McCarthy or McCurley...

I guess they will need to say..Hey Big Mac...if it is for McCarthy...:muttley:

I hope McCarthy never trips and falls because he might rock himself to sleep trying to get up.
